Title: Rock Challenge Series 1: Buster Only Pwnage
Post by: magnum12 on May 04, 2007, 10:24:57 am
Your objective should you decide to accept it, is to pwn robot masters from the classic and X series without using special weapons and record it. (This is just like the EC's at TSC.)
-Rules:
1. You may not use special weapons against a boss. You may however, use special weapons to get to the end of the level.
2. No sub tanks, energy tanks, etc.
3. No upgraded parts in the X series. (Heart tanks are still allowed.)
4. Use as many lives as you need to, but try to keep the vid short please.
-This topic will blow up in 15 seconds doods!

get it on tape.

1.Not everyone can record. >_>
2.Not everyone has the listed games. <_<

ROM anyone? ...*shot*

[Maybe we should do these like how the EC's were done. That way everyone can compete and there is less of a hassle grading the runs because some of us can't play .avi, .WMV, etc.]

thats what me and sonicam was talking about...playing MM1-7 and X1-3 on roms like the ECs.

also I had a couple of challenges in mind, but I didn't think anyone wanted this to start so soon.

just thought about the fact you could play MM8 since there are saturn roms...but not sure if they are any good.

I heard that Saturn games were difficult to emulate. A PS1 ROM might work. I'd certainly like to see what challenges you've got SJ. Any good ones should probaly be posted so we can get some content ready for when we start getting new members. (As is the goal of posting this challenge.)

Yea, it would have to be ROM games only, just like the Emerald challenges at TSC. That way, the movie files will be very small in memory, easy access, everyone can do it and it's just more efficient. I was going to make a suggestions topic like when more people came and set some guidelines and such, but didn't have much time to. This challenge is basically my "MegaMan EXtreme Mode", or in other words, the "Bare X Challege" (no subs, hearts, special weapon usages [unless your path is impassible other wise], etc.)

And yea, we should hold this off until more people come and we all talk about setting guidelines, prizes and the such.

well then...I'll remind myself to work on some challenges...hopefully ones I have done already myself :/

also just like the ECs we need a place where everyone can get the correct ROMs to play on so there will be no sync issues.  Also NTSC only....but what about between a megaman and rockman ROM?

If it's NTSC only, then it'll only be MegaMan.

Just some thoughts:

Layout 1:  A Challenge sheet for each series of games being used for challenges (classic series, X1-3, Zero1-4).  Maybe include Rockman and Forte along with the Gameboy MM games.

Layout 2:  A series of challenges spanned through the games that are being used with bonus challenges dealing with the Zero series.

Got some ideas for challenges swimming through my head, but what needs to be discussed is what games will all be used?

Classic, X1-3, and Zero 1-4 is a given.  What about the GB megaman titles, Rockman and Forte (or Megaman and Bass if anyone prefers it over R&F...personally I liked the original better), also if any Saturn Roms or PS1 Roms will be used (wouldn't it be better if it was easy if anyone to get their hands on the Roms/Emulators and work with them as well?)  Then there's the use of Wily Wars for the MD (which never made it to the states) which has MM1-3.  I didn't toy around with it enough myself, but it isn't exactly like the originals (weapons and damage wise).

Saturn emulations retardedly buggy so I hear, and off hand I cant think of a PS emulator that can record a la Gens+

well that rules out Saturn and PS1 then, which just leaves any GB, NES, SNES, and GBA MM games....and Wily Wars

You got my interest. So, this is only for the boss fights, no stages? If I can do the stages, too, can I use Items (MM2), for example? (Note that it is impossible to complete some parts of the game w/o Items or Crash Bomb.) Since the vids would roughly be around 5-20 seconds long with only the boss, I'd find it more interesting to beat the stage first, since one'll probably get hit and battle the boss with lower energy than from a fresh start (spawning next to the room). What do you think?

What do you guys think? Should we allow E tanks? I think the Emerald challenges record the full stage so maybe we should. As a cavet, I suggest allowing the use of more than one life since some bosses are real nasty to deal with without special weapons.

wait, so how are these challenges going to be set up exactly?

I mean just some random ones thrown about or is there going to be some order to this?

Since one won't be able to use any special weapons exept when it's an absolute requirement to proceed, the stage order doesn't matter. However, should the Items (or Rushes) be enabled to full use, order is everything.

1. You may not use special weapons against a boss. You may however, use special weapons to get to the end of the level.

...and here I thought I was paying attention, yet I missed the first rule. Fine.

Edit: So what I'm expected to do is something like this (http://files.filefront.com/Mega_Man_21avi/;7550115;/fileinfo.html)? Yes, it has it's flaws but nothing significant

When I do my "MegaMan Hard Mode," I disallow all use of Special Weapons (Items/Rush included), Hearts (X games), Sub Tanks/ E Tanks, and Armors (Including MM6 Rush equips). However, like Creamer said, there are times where your pathway is impassible without an item, armor or special weapon. In that case, use of them is acceptable only at that instance. Once your path is passable without the use of the item, weapon, or armor, then it's use is disallowed.

Also, I'm all for going in order. Like if the challenge is simplistic and systematic like this, we can just submit this challenge for all the games and let people play at their leasure.

For a rule:

1. Any use of items or special weapons besides the Mega-Buster/X-Buster, is disallowed. However, if you pathway is completely impassible, use of the a required item is acceptable until impassible task is complete.

Do not call me "Creamer". So far the lack of competition has been because no one has ever heard of you, but it's shit like that that keeps things that way.

That rule is much better, though. Makes it feel like a different kind of challenge compared to the insane glitchfest you'd normally expect from a Mega Man 1/2 run.

Edit: Here's some .fmc's I made. I beat Air Man, Flash Man, Metal Man and Bubble Man, respectfully. You'll need an emulator named FCEU and Mega Man 2 (US?) rom to play those, but, as a plus, they're small in size.

Oh, ok, sorry about that name mistake.

Ok, cool, I'll take a look at those when I get the emulator. We don't have any of the prizes yet, but we'll definately keep your vids and give them to you when we create them.

Here are Heat Man, Quick Man, Wood Man and Crash Man. I'm not entirely happy with these, as I take two unnecessary hits in Heat's stage, miss some shots when fighting Quick Man, the wrong bat starts to awakes first in Wood's stage (also, I play a bit slower than I could because I need much energy to kill Wood Man fast (you'll see why) - although I shouldn't have needed that much ;>>). Also, I mess up a jump at Crash Man's, plus the fight's a bit bad looking, since I take a lot of damage (it's hard to make the fight faster than the normal horizontal 8-shaped battle one'd normally use). They do probably have some things you might be interested about (such as the disappearing block shortcut), so I upload them anyway.
