Title: The Random .giz Topic
Post by: Magnezone on September 07, 2007, 04:12:40 am
So yeah, I'm tired of making a new topic every time I'm bored and want to share some random thing I found in a Genesis game, so why not make a compilation that everyone can add to! This is generally for random crap that doesn't deserve to be turned into a video and added to the site as well, or my case where the site just hates me and won't accept file transfers at all.

A rundown on how I set up my post:

FILE - the attatchment you need to download if you want to see the trick/run
GAME - what game you need to play the giz in gens+
ZONE - where the giz takes place
INFO - what the giz is about

To start, here's a few you may have seen... and a few you may not have seen! (hint: they're attatchments)

FILE: sb2.giz
GAME: Sonic 1
ZONE: Scrap Brain Act  2
INFO: Ring Attack Trick

This is the full RA .giz I made before ybbun told me about another trick to get to where the record is now. I promised not to tell that trick though, so this .giz is of a run without that trick. :(

FILE: l1ringsJ.giz
GAME: Sonic 1 (Japanese version)
ZONE: Labyrinth Act 1
INFO: Full Ring Attack

This is a full 107 ring attack of Labyrinth 1, also showing where the extra ring is. I found this on Sonic Mega Collection because that's where I was ring-attacking Sonic 1.

FILE: ht1-kRA.giz
GAME: Sonic 2 & Knuckles
ZONE: Hill Top 1
INFO: Full Ring Attack + Score Attack demonstration

In the first minute is where I show the trick that enables someone to get a score of 90,000+ if repeated a million times, and the rest of it is a ring attack to get the perfect bonus.

FILE: cp2kscore.giz
GAME: Sonic 2 & Knuckles
ZONE: Chemical Plant 2
INFO: Score/Ring Attack

This shows where all 297 rings are located, and how to achieve the 2nd place score. No clue what stanski did to get under 3 minutes total :(

FILE: lr2-kRA.giz
GAME: Sonic 3 & Knuckles
ZONE: Lava Reef Act 2 w/ Knuckles
INFO: Full Ring Attack

A full ring attack of the zone with Knuckles. Props to mike for tipping me off to the beginning part, and I added a little something to the end to make 286 rings. Also note the weird part where Knuckles seems to be running down a wall after I spindash-jump for the ring I missed.

FILE: lr2-klol.giz
GAME: Sonic 3 & Knuckles
ZONE: Lava Reef Act 2 w/ Knuckles
INFO: Random lol

This is what happens if you keep running down the wall in the last .giz. You get into the wall, but it doesn't really seem to help at all :(

FILE: ss-sRA.giz
GAME: Sonic 3 & Knuckles
ZONE: Sky Sanctuary w/ Sonic
INFO: Ring Attack Route

This zone is kind of confusing to RA, but this is the route I used. Shows where the randomly placed 10 box is that Thorn discovered. Run was good up till the boss in which I got hit :( But this at least shows the route!

Feel free to post your own random .giz's!

I approve of this thread!

That trick in LR2 was rather clever...but you missed two really obvious rings. :S

And how d'you make Sonic go up the tube twice in SB2?
Title: Re: The Random .giz Topic
Post by: yse on September 07, 2007, 10:45:40 am
Crowbar the reason he didn't get those rings is that if he goes over 50 before that glide and climb he is screwed. (Incidentally, for cases like this, I'm wondering whether allowing Super forms might actually bring about an increase in the total possible. Something to consider.)

If I organised my FTP folder better it would make a bit more sense but if you search through www.soniccenter.org/mike89 there's a bunch of giz's that I've put up over the past year or so. Most of them are self explanatory, in the form IC2T-R = Ice Cap 2 Tails Rings.

After screwing around in debug mode for awhile on Mushroom Hill 1 trying to find a way to break into Knuckles's path for ring/score attacking, I finally did! Check it out. Of course I still don't know how to get those last three rings in his path out in a manner that you can still get back out of the hole with Sonic, but this is a start... (water shield bounce on the badnik)

Meh, it doesn't matter, you may as well make a video, everyone knows about the 247 now heh. I think the original technique (not using the fall-through-the-scenery glitch, and trying to get 172 instead of 169) was much more obscure and interesting than trying to get 247 with the glitch.

One of the challenges in mike's tournament involved defeating Robotnik in Launch Base 1.  Normally you're supposed to defeat a robot at the end of the stage instead, so the process is fairly strange, as seen in eredani's video (done in S3&K) in the following archive: http://www.soniccenter.org/tournament/R8L1.zip

I tried this challenge myself.  I also had a lightning shield handy.  This resulted in a strange sight after defeating Robotnik:

Finally got around to doing this. Scrap Brain 2 RA. ( :( ybbun)

On a side note, I went through the first part twice on a different run and when I finished the level, I ended up with 263 rings! It seems like some rings/boxes can actually reappear even after you collect them. Though, when I talked to mike about it, he said he found something like that awhile ago and it was banned, so I'm not submitting it.

Falling through the floor in a good place in SO2! Basically, you need to reach maximum jump height from the flat surface (ie hold the jump button) then hold left onto the wall. Works every time for me.

EDIT: Star Light 3 261 rings!

Also, at fastest, you'll BARELY pass the rotating spikes.  I recorded this before I found that out, and that is crucial to 30.

I wouldn't be so sure about the "barely" passing them part, unless your definition of "fastest" actually isn't very fast. I tend to feel pretty safe with my distance to them in good runs...

Attached .giz of me finishing Labyrinth 2 in 0:29.

I want to upload my videos, both old and current records. However they were recorded on an older version of gens and are in .gmv format. Will this be ok? If not how can I convert them?

Movies I have:

Current records:
Labyrinth 1 score - 30630 (finished in 2:59)
Labyrinth 3 score - 27100 (finished in 3:59)

Old records ruined by recently-discovered glitches:
Labyrinth 2 score - 28530 (finished in 1:59)
Star Light 3 score - 28600 (finished in 3:57)
Scrap Brain 2 score & rings - 20700 & 172 (much prefer this level before the glitch heh)

Movie I don't have:
Scrap Brain 2 score - 27000. Got confused with a new version of gens and thought I was recording when I wasn't. Unlikely to be able to replicate this.

Ok, videos attached, hopefully this will work.

They each have a few re-records which are from save-stating at the beginning of the level, to stop having to reload each time.

Most of the runs exploit the scoring method where Sonic stays in a combo as long as he does not leave and touch the ground after hitting an enemy.

Only Labyrinth 1 and Labyrinth 3 are current records, so don't watch the others if you don't care lol.

The Scrap Brain 2 one is a bit weird because you have to enter the 3rd pipe with exactly 49 rings, and since there is no time pressure I left out lots of different ones at the beginning of the level. :)

Enjoy, heh

Mystic Cave 2 Knuckles has been improved! (http://www.soniccenter.org/mike89/games/MC2K-R.giz)

If you don't know what's going on, once I go into the walls turn Background B off in the Graphics menu so you can see the rings. There's two more but they're way up top and neither SDM or I have a way to get there just yet. If we can, however, that's perfect!

Sorry if i sound a noob, but how do i play giz files, im new to gens, i used  fusion before.

Copy and pasted from ye older but not very olde days.

Quote from: Rick the Sexy and very manly man
On recording

Pretty much, when you're using on Gens+ and opened up a ROM you right click and it should open up a menu. Find and click on "Record Input Movie" to record a run. When you are done recording, right click again and choose an option with the word "stop". A .giz file should be produced and saved in the folder you chose to put it in.

On Playing

To open a .giz file you have to save one on you're computer or have one that you made. Open up Gens+ and play the correct ROM. After you have the correct ROM right click into options menu and choose "Play Input Movie". Select a .giz file that can be played with the selected ROM and you can now view it's content and stuff.

Also instead of right-clicking you can use the menu located at the top of Gens+

Holy fucking shit.

This is going to be an epic time when I finish this.
It's AIZ2-S btw. Third run. There was also a run where I made the double jump to the upper springs at ~0:32, but I can't find it.

EDIT: holy shit, got the second part. see the next .giz, it's also the third run.

I'm asking someone to replicate it because it's funny, but I can't do it again. :(

Remember the "go too fast and die" glitch in GHZ1? Well, I somehow managed to do it in MZ1 -- TWICE. And can't do it again to record the giz.
I jumped onto the first big slope, and rolled... across the platforms, then across the lava sequence without a scratch... and then died at the second slope due to being too fast. :D
Can someone pull it off and record?

Ok so I've found a new glitch in Marble Garden. I think there is more potential with this glitch but here is a preview of what I think can be done.

Over two years later i thought this might have a use in the SS. Putting up the whole thing with Knux now, someone please crack this with tails, PLEASE

Whoa, whoa, hold up, bro. Let me get this straight.

You were on and on last night on #soniccenter talking up a storm, saying that one or more of my rings stats could have been pwned, because of a flashy, yet minor corollary of something I found about a year ago?

I hate to be captain obvious, but 999 can't really be beaten just because you found three more rings to pick up by being in act 2.

You also told me in chat yesterday that you couldn't locate where you were after that rise. You said it was a new stretch of area that was independent of either act. That's Act 2 showing through, I can tell by the smasher and the three rings afterward. I've stared at that section of the screen for ten years. This is the area in which I wait for about half a minute with my spinning top to push high enough through the ceiling. It's not a new piece of a level or anything of the sort. >_>

And as for clearing MG2 in that short a time, you might want to refer to Icecap 2. A similar approach had already been banned. Also note that the competition rules say you can't start an act anywhere except for the entry from act 1 boss, or from level select.

Obligatory reference to the possibility that this may already have been discussed; if so then I get today's dunce hat.

Oh here we go. A huge improvement on this glitch, showing the most useable glitch i have found in this level to date. I have more bizzare glitches but with no use...of yet. Still working on this level, I'm sure more is to be had.

note: there is a fair bit of pausing :/, LB2K, and yeah you would need a pretty good map, i suggest if youre actually doing a ra like this, to get all the top rings, do this, then get the bottom rings.

Since I don't know exactly what your problem is, I'll just say this: You might need the latest Gens version (v.10a) to play them, even though it shouldn't be necessary.

P.S: I just tried to play them in Gens9.5b, and it doesn't work. Mainly because the new savestates are apparently incompatible with it, somehow...

I'm surprised no one posted this yet (RPG).

In this video, for Sonic 1 Rev00, a level object and a shield box respawn in Labyrinth 3, during a run by RPG for an emerald challenge we were discussing. Yes, he gets the same shield twice. Later, a shield box disappears without being opened. It's pretty ... well, epic really.

S3K LB1 action. Carried the slope glitch through to sonic's boss. This cannot be done as knuckles due to lack of boss presence.

This leads to shattering LB2 time, rings, and scores, however I did not record that. Use the savestate provided if you want to try out this glitch yourself.

Miles, I've been told that you've gotta use S3&K for this league. Don't ask me why, but I figured you'd rather hear it now than this time next week.

Here's Life Wasted done pretty damn well if you ask me, in a cumulative time of 1:17 (33+15+4+25). Have fun.

Yay! Finally figured out how to get that MG2 Tails record...and beat it :D Kudos to Parax for inspiring me to do this (he really did nothing <_<)

Also thanks to SDM for the previous video, that is some great stuff :) (though my sonic was totally more epic <_<)

Edit: Wow, my old spindashing sucked. Like just a few months back, that was shocking. Anyway, 0:44 here, 0:43 might JUST be possible, this is pretty close and you'll see i wuss out on the last two hits as I didn't need to fly into him, otherwise the level was pretty smooth, I can't see like anytime at all being saved here....unless I played it for another 4 days heh <_<

Edit: Put in the SS method of OO2

Edit: Just showing the easy method here.

Edit: Here's something to enjoy, a GMV of my S3K route with Tails showing off exactly what I'm pressing. I'm a bit retarded and didn't realise player 2 had inputs the same as my Player 1 inputs (right = B i think) so ignore the orange shit. Total time: 26:58

Ok, so for those of you not aware, I've decided to make a giz of every time level for s2(k) and s3k. And any other random ring attack or s1 attempts I make. And now for the first installation! I think getting 10 video after 2 days is pretty respectable. Though half of them are just filler <_<

HP-S-Rings: Yeah, this took more than one go. I am ashamed :(
HP-T-Rings: This did not :o
HP-K: Also one attempt.
Final Zone: Yeah I'm pro.

Done with the filler. Now for...semi-filler!

AI1T-Rings: Eaisest RA in sonic 3 by some margain. Expect the other 2 in the next installation <_<
AI1S-Time: Holy crap, something decent? No! 0:51, this is -awful-
AI1K-Time: 0:50, this is worse
AI1T-Time: 0:49, semi decent. This would be the third giz of these I would watch.

And now for serious business. Even though these are the most likely to be beaten... <_<

HT1-S-Time: 0:40. YOU CALL THAT A ZIP?!?!?
I have about 2354078 0:40's. I should have at least two runs that would have the record here. In fact I did get one! AND I TAPED OVER IT!!! >_< (Also note this is done in PAL...no idea why)
Edit: 0:39. Why hadn't i done that? God this is so easy to improve too...

IC1-K-Time: 1:19. You've got to be kidding me. Only time I get the boss right I pull out that crap in the level. Wtf at that last platform :(

Edit: IC1-K-Time improved to 1:17 Now it is worth watching.

Edit: AI1-K: 0:47. Heh, that was alarmingly easy, you can get to 45 with this (1 second each side of the check) but its much harder than this is <_<

Mushroom Hill 2 Sonic in 1:14. Not sure if those slope jumps near the end were necessary, but that hit was intentional, so I could run on the spikes.

Ok, only 8 here atm, ill add 2 more later, im taking a break (which will end up being like, tonight <_<) after the last giz here, I got waaaaaaay to frustrated.

AI1S-Rings: Whoo, I'm awesome.

AI2S-Time: 1:28 Awful. I'll beat this later.
AI2T-Time: 1:25 ^ I also died ffs <_<

LR2K-Time: 0:27, not too shabby imo <_< Come on, its less than 30 seconds and beating the currect tsc record by 2 seconds.

IC1S-Time: 1:46. BAAH. This level also pissed me off. However, that is some epic luck in the bonus stages. Another 3 seconds in this :/
IC1T-Time: 1:32. Wtf did i do on that boss o_O I dont care, it's awesome X) Sure enough, I failed the level, 2 more seconds here.

AI2S-Score: 45400. Wow, that was totally awesome, I didn't know i could do that! :D
AI2T-Score: 51900. No, that was shit. -This- is awesome. And for anyone who was in the chat and heard me say it was 52000 for my plan, i must have miscounted. Please don't tell me i missed one, I -must- have miscounted...surely... :(

Edit 1: HT1K-Time: 0:37. OH COME ON!!! So close to a 36 and look at the end on that ramp. THAT IS TOTAL BS!!! With a better curve there that wouldve been 35 :( :( :( (the run sucked in general, but i got the -epic- zip. ps their are 2 deaths at the start <_<)
Edit: You have got to be fucking kidding me. That check was so a 32, and i so fucking ended at 34! THAT SHOULD'VE BEEN 33 WROAR >:O
Edit: 0:34. Whatever, not bothering for 33 now, this shit will do.

Edit 2: Met3K-Time: 1:25. Why had no one done the piston glitch with knux? 3 seconds lost on the boss, prolly 3 in the level, maybe 4 with fine tuning.
Edit: 1:19. Blah, just missed a 46 check :( Also yeah, I forgot there was a check before the boss, sorry for the pause <_<

Edit 3: AI2S-Score Improved to 46100 :D 2 more pwnsome combos, for some reason the manipulation of vines was harder this time, also rhinos <_<

Edit 4: IC1S-Time: 1:04. Why had no one done this before?

Edit 5: IC1S-Time: 0:58. Blehhhhhh, it'll do I guess -_-

Edit 6: IC1T-Time: 0:43. FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

Edit 7: LR2K-Time: 0:23. After seeing how easy the step zip is I thought this was needed.
Edit: 0:22. Yeah this ones surely perfect now.

Metropolis 2 in 14 seconds with Sonic.

Post by: werster on May 27, 2009, 02:35:39 pm
DsS you fail, i already did that >:(

Eh, I'm posting now due to a request. Man i failed that one <_<

Chemical Plant 1 Knux: 0:23. This level sucks. Nothing else to be said.

Chemical Plant 2 Knux: 0:33. This level is actually cool!

SO2S-Time: 2:48. Bleh, i didn't go for the shorter spindash on the last push block thingo, i kept on failing it on other runs. But yeah at least 2:44 here.
Edit: Oh fucking hell. OF COURSE! LIGHTNING SHIELD >:O 2:41 right now, still shaving though, 2:31 is what I'm hoping to reach, 2:27 is the best I've gotten with loose savestates.
Edit 2: 2:36, you'll see just where i fail, at 1:29. Rest of the run is quite smooth, sadly that one failure cost me 5 seconds :(
Edit 3: 2:35. You've got to be fucking kidding me. I finally make the cycle, and I get that rubbish ending?! >:O

Sky Chase Rings Knux: So I missed an easy one. That took waaaaaaaaay too many attempts.

EH1-K: 0:19. Heh, tried this for like 10 minutes, first time I got 19 it was a reasonably low one. 18 certainly is possible, I wouldn't doubt it by a human at all.
EH1S: 0:19. Again, ten minutes, but this one is still a lot harder due to sonic's lame RIGHT MEANS SLOW DOWN attitude >:(

MG1T: 0:55. ...........my god this is made of fail, but I am too pissed to keep playing atm.

AR1S: 0:21. Blah, 0:20 is easy, I'm jsut failing and aslo annoyed at the moment.
Edit: 0:20. Why this took so long, I'll never know.

AR1K: 0:19. Whee :D Also 18 is possible, I'd just like to keep some hair on my head ok.

MG1K-Time: 0:58. This took exactly 2 tries, thus can be beaten :(
Edit: 0:55. This is prety shocking too, I'll hit 52 sooner or later.

Post by: werster on June 10, 2009, 12:42:27 am
Sky Chase Rings Sonic: <_<
OO2K: 0:37. This is a pretty solid run, surely 36 is gettable here, I might get it later..after the other 60 giz's i have to go back to <_<

Metro1K: 0:57. Man i fucked up just about everything, how the fuck is this a record. Will re-do.
Edit: 0:55. Blah, 54 possible here, could go to 53 if i wasn't such a wuss :(
Edit 2: 0:53. That's a nice looking run.
Edit 3: 0:52. Finally got one of these levels down.
Edit 4: 0:40. Bah, so close, I'll stop at 39... -_-
Edit 5: 0:39. Finally am done with this! God I'm so happy now :D

HC1T: 0:41. There is a boss strat that I found that is about 3 seconds faster than this, but it's much harder and I'm doing ss attempts atm so you get stuck with this.

DE2T: 3:13. Well that was easy. Easily another 2, prolly will up up being ~10 more seconds in this though <_<
Edit: 3:09. Looks good enough, I'm fairly certain this can be beaten due to me doing no testing whatsoever. Knock yourself out kids! (eredani <_<)

So yeah I insisted on failing DE2S for ages and ages, took a break and then after a few hours gave up with the terrible result of...
OO1K: 0:32. Now seriously, this is an outright record on one of the most played games in a community of the best sonic players around the world? I dont get that at all. I couldn't even spindash there for a second, -and- I noobed up the ending. Can someone please go over these games with me, because I find this a disgrace :(
Edit: 0:31. Oh you have got to be kidding me. That's complete and utter bs ok. BS THAT WASN'T A 30!!! >:(

SB3: 0:11. Yet another easy one i forgot about <_<

HT2K: 0:53. Heh, this level is so easy dammit, and then i just failed the boss <_<

Balloon Park Freestyle 5 Lap: 4:72. Bahahaha, this is a complete joke, even the name fails, couldnt be bothered renaming it :D

HP-S: 0:23. This is a cinch, 22 should be easy though, I'm just failing :(
Edit: 0:22. Thank fuck :(
Edit: 0:21. Good luck ever, ever beating this. Oh yeah, feel free to skip ~80 deaths this time X)

Was doing a random run and got a very odd glitch in AIZ2 o_O can anyone tell me what it is? It happens right after I beat the boss.

Also the run is much longer, ignore that tho :P (also I noticed I dated it wrong, I recorded it today, the 22nd, not the 21st)

Movie desyncs at ICZ, but before that everything is fine.
Title: Re: The Random .giz Topic
Post by: werster on July 11, 2009, 10:29:45 pm
Edit: Putting this at the top because its awesome. 0:42 DEATH EGG :D :D :D

Balloon Park Freestyle one lap: 0:71. This is even -more- of a joke. Only took one try though :D
Edit: 0:70. <_<

Death Egg 1 Sonic Freestyle: 1:18. Wow, this is the most fun I have had playing sonic for a good while, though the eventfulness of fresstyle is still limited.

Green Hill 2: 0:13. This is about the 5th time i've gotten this, dunno why i didn't have a .giz, took 5 minutes heh <_<

Casino Night 1 Sonic: 0:25. Yeaaa, one of the most annoying levels to TA gets broken. Kudos to Koshi for finding this one, and partial to Fuzz for explaining the ending <_<
Edit: 0:24. Found out a way to actually have the signpost spin a bit quicker. Don't see this being beaten by a human.

Casino Night 1 Knuckles: 0:23. Yeaaaa, I love this level now X)

Emerald Hill 2 Sonic: 0:37. So for the upcoming S2 race i decided it was time to relearn the paths i forgot a year ago. So I watch stanski's vid for EH2, seems easy enough. I wait a few hours, come back and decide to stick the path in my memory. I end up with a 37 on my first attempt, think the run is a bit shabby and think 36 might be possible. Sure enough I see one person on 36, about what I expected. I then see only -two- people on 37 and the masses on 38 and even 39. Seriously people, what. the. fuck. This is a level I had forgotten how to do for a year and only 3 other people can match my first attempt? I am seriously, seriously ashamed. You all need to pick up your act ffs.
Edit: 0:36. /me picks up act~

Death Egg Knuckles: 0:49. No one has this? Seriously? Come on people, that may have been a really high 49 but that end spindash wasn't ideal, and i seriously thought i sucked at this level. Bleh, you guys are letting me down of recent :(
Edit: Yeah fuck you cruizer. Also why do I suck at this so much? Correction, why does everyone else suck more! >:O
shh :(
Edit: Ok and it turns out that one was 50 and 0 frames. But this one is 49! I PROMISE!!!

Mystic Cave 1 Knuckles: 0:31. This is the most fun I have had competing without freestyle for some time. A beautiful route, excellent music, and actually quite easy and relaxing :)
Edit: 0:30. Bah, knowing that 28 is possible hurts me, even though this actually looks pretty good -_-

Oil Ocean 2 Sonic: 0:37. Wheeee :D

EDIT2: New .giz added, EHZ2-K ABO, 1:23
EDIT3: updated EHZ2K ABO to 1:17

Ok Aita, I accept your challenges and might upload some of my own. I'll start with this, EH1K ABO in 0:30, hoping for the sub 30 bonus soon.
Edit: Hell yes. 0:28, I really like this one :)

Chemical Plant 2: 1:04, i messed up and missed a cycle, failed the end too, just to show Aita the route.

Oh that's right, I was doing 10 at a time wasn't I...well I guess if I'm going to do that I may as well find some filler. Hey here is 7.8 easy sitewide points! Yay for Sonic 1 :D

Special Stage 1: 104. Ok fine, I agree, this one -is- a total piece of shit :(
Special Stage 2: 125. Change of pace after that shitty first one X)
Special Stage 3: 172. Can't even remember this due to getting it first go X)
Special Stage 4: 187. ^
Special Stage 5: 146. I like my walls to be seen ok :(
Special Stage 6: 108. Did...did you see what I saw?

Chemical Plant 2 Sonic: 0:40. Bleh, bloody ramp jumps of shit :(
Edit: 0:39. Whee, now i never have to do this shit again :D

Mystic Cave 2 Knuckles: 0:44. Yeah whatever, it'll do.
Edit: 0:43. Shittiest boss making 42 -just- out of reach :(

Aquatic Ruin 2 Knuckles: 0:36. Shittiest capsule, would've been 34 if i got it right, but getting that glide+boss glitch isn't as fun as it seems.
Metropolis 1 Sonic: 0:52. Fuck. Off. Last. Spindash. I have lost a total of 13 0:51s because of it. Also fuck you tails <_<
Title: Re: The Random .giz Topic

Mystic Cave 2 Sonic Score: 34400. Yeah Koshi was RAing this so I randomly picked it up, saw how horrible the score was and decided to beat it. I seriously hope other scores aren't these terrible...Also yeah, 280 rings too <_<

Right: This one is for FF, showing another 300 points possible in met3 with knux (and 100 with sonic if anyone cares about that <_<)
Edit: Bahahahaha, make that 300, 1800 X) Yeah FF, don't call something perfect till you know the level :)
Edit: And yet another 300...

Edit: Taking these off because I pulled them off in a real run. Go get them. As a sidenote I found 800 in met1, that I'm also putting up for FF. Whee. <_<
Edit: And now I failed met4s showing the combo at the start. Eh.
Edit: Got this in a real run too. Now showing another combo FF missed, stop calling things perfect <_<

Aquatic Ruin 2 Sonic: 0:41. Pretty terrible, lost an easy second both sides of the boss, that capsule after the glitch is -really- annoying.
Edit: 0:37. Thank fucking god, I hate this level so much. WHY CANT YOU BE FLAT YOU STUPID GROUND >:O

Hidden Palace Tails: 0:28. Feel free to skip 10 deaths on the boss X)

Oil Ocean 1 Sonic: 0:32. "I'd consider this my hardest IL time to beat." - Stanski on his 0:33. Do I need to say more~?

Chemical Plant 2 Sonic: 82700. Lol, this run is made of shit, I don't see how I can get sub 3 though...

Marble Garden 2 Sonic: 0:46. Yeaaaaa :D

Carnival Night 2 Knuckles: 0:37. This...is outright? Anyway you can get a 23 check (not easy), the part after the check isnt exactly done perfectly, but i couldnt save the second with 100 savestates so not worth trying for better <_<
Edit: 0:36. Wasn't overly difficult, 35 is possible but the second is after the check...and like i couldnt be assed to do that all pinpoint perfectly <_<

Sandopolis 1 Knuckles: 1:12. Dunno why i hadn't thought of that...nice one blueblazer. Also I'm going to go crazy trying for 1:11 now aren't I...? >_<

Star Light 2: 0:10. Dear god I can't believe I failed this for so long. AAAAND I can't believe no one had found this yet! Well played anyway, Romulo.

Mystic Cave 2 Sonic: 0:42. Yeah yeah, another level down.
Edit: 0:41. Bah, I -think- this can go down to 40, though the spindashing in this level is such shit, and it would have to be pretty perfect :(

Sky Sanctuary Knuckles: 0:57. Took like 10 minutes lol, the great part about this is that i noobed up the second phase X)

Mystic Cave 1 Sonic: 0:31. Yeah that was pro, also I wanna improve Knux now, it can go to 28 ffs <_<

Chemical Plant 1 Sonic: 0:22. Wow, I don't have a single cp record :( I suck at this level :(

Emerald Hill 2 Knuckles: 0:38. I know this is shit, I'll get 37 when I'm in the mood, I'm only posting this because I'm sick of getting annoyed when I tape over one of the 8 videos of this i have <_< Also i took the wrong path which makes it funny :(
Edit: 0:37. And I'll knock this to 36 too. I'll start on that tomorrow.
Edit: 0:36. Yays :(

Casino Night 2 Knuckles: 0:59. This is fairly easy to improve, I just hate this level so much :(
Edit: 0:58. Stupid. Random. BS. Bumpers. Fucking. Up. My. Runs.
Edit: 0:57. Fucking flipper shit, would've been 56, I can get it but I won't try because this level is such shit, I hate it!
Edit: 0:37. Holy mother of god YESSSS

Hill Top 2 Sonic: 0:58. Fucked up the boss again >_< AND I noobed up in the level. It's quite amazing how this level can be so fun with knux yet so shit with sonic... :(
Edit: 0:56. This level is like...scarily boring.

Casino Night 2 Sonic: 0:58. Man that was close, however this still sucks but I hate this level so whatever...don't ask why I didn't stop recording <_<
Edit: 0:55. Cannot believe how bad this run is. But the first flipper skip is so fucking hard. :\

Wing Fortress Knuckles: 1:45. And that's knuckles done! Man that was actually alot easier then I had thought. Though I still think sonic -will- be that difficult.
Edit: 1:44. That's a keeper. Skip to life 75 on the boss.
Title: Re: The Random .giz Topic

Ok this one is a gmv, so I'm seperating it from the others. Yeah shut up I had no idea what im doing so don't complain if it doesnt work or something. But yeah, I might make some more of these and update this post?

Star Light 3: 0:38. All I did was use asavestates, so it's not the best of quality, I actually got 36 in an earlier run. But, my s1 skills are -shocking- so I think I'll just bass the baton onto someone else to actually get this.

Star Light 3: 0:36. This is the other method...once again I only used savestates, I've honestly got no idea which path to take luck+skill and time wise both routes are pretty identical. Anyway, I have better things to do then concern myself with that right now, that's my s1 stint done, knock yourself out kids!

IceCap1 Knuckles: 0:47. People need to tell me about this shit, seriously!!!

This is a combo in Emerald Hill 1 Knuckles of 23 enemies giving a total of 92800 points. Holy fuck. And I'm crazy enough to try this real time, too.

Pssh. That was weak. 23? 26 seems much better. And I'll do the whole run, knock it under 4 too.I'm almost confident to call that perfect. 206300.

Edit: Putting in my co-op Carnival Night strat for FF, and I took down ic1t, met1k and sl1 because i hit all of those real time >_>
Title: Re: The Random .giz Topic
Post by: blueblazer_8 on August 31, 2009, 11:13:33 pm
Sandopolis 1 Knuckles in 1:13. A lot harder to execute than with Tails. For the route I took, you have to release your superglide at the right time to get into the wall, then quickly do a 1 tap spindash, then tap right a little later to zip.
Title: Re: The Random .giz Topic
Post by: werster on September 12, 2009, 02:14:02 pm
Well there are like ten s1 RAs that i would do that don't involve score (well one does, but its fairly basic <_<) so I may as well make a new post for them then?

Green Hill 1: 225. Man, I fail at this something major.
Green Hill 2: 163. Small level is small :(
Marble 1: 132. Woot yes! <_<
Spring Yard 1: 177. Ok this is getting tedious writing something for these.
Spring Yard 2: 222. TWO :O
Labyrinth 2: 117. <_<

</filler>

Star Light 1: 253. Wow, seriously only 6 people have this?

TODO: Star Light 2, Star Light 3, Scrap Brain 3. Expect those next year people :o

Well well well. I've been out of it for quite some time, but here we go...

S2 Time chart complete! 25:16 all up. For reference, TSC has 25:36, stanski has 26:26.

Wing Fortress Sonic: 1:43. What a bloody relief. If I may offer a bit of advice for anyone who chooses they might go for this time...don't. I haven't yelled at a fucking game like this since...since 3D gaming <_< And yeah, life 83 on the boss.

Sky Chase Score Knuckles: 372900. Don't know how to improve this...
Sky Chase Score Sonic: 372900. You'd be surprised how annoying that last enemy is with sonic...

Mystic Cave 1 Sonic Score: 79400. Bah, another 100 -is- possible, but getting it isn't easy, getting under 3 with it is even harder <_<

Mystic Cave 1 Knuckles Score: 82300. Maaaaan, I bet this could go sub 5 -somehow-
Edit: 82800. Yeaaaa. Only mistake was that loop jump from about 3:40-4 :\

Chemical Plant 2 Knuckles Score: 82700. Oh yeah, I did this too, shocking run but yet again, no clue for sub 3...

Metropolis 3 Knuckles Score: 79700. FF I HAVE BEEN BUGGING YOU TO DO THIS FOR MONTHS! And now I understand why you haven't... <_< You'll notice I do two really strange things which seem pointless, one going down the halfpipe the first time, and the second how slow I went up the wall. I do these to try and stop the FUCKING ENEMIES DISAPPEARING USDYHVJOSDIUFHNNSPUIDGYBWSHGJ!!! Also my idiocy kept fucking up runs, luckily i got it second time I got to the boss. 5 days for a simple run like this is a bit sad... :(

Wing Fortress Rings Knuckles: 296. This was alot easier than I remember...though the last time i tried was like 6 years ago <_<

Wing Fortress Rings Sonic: 296. Seriously, I need to stop overlooking things, I got this first go ffs <_<

Metropolis 3 Sonic: 76700. Worked pretty closely with FF on this one, finally a finished result. I didn't get the last mantis combo, which is 400 points but seriously I hit that like 1 in 100 and at the end of a 9 minute run that just isn't good enough <_<

As some of you may know, there is a glitch in S2 Oil Ocean, where your jump height is increased and you move alot faster. I have managed to find a use for it in Oil Ocean 2 as Sonic, by getting 400 points more than my previous score :D

This is very easy to pull off. Just make sure you get the shield so you don't lose your rings >_>. This giz will also show you that you can keep combos going when using the spheres. You just have to make sure that you don't jump on the blocks to send you up to the sphere or spin dash because that will cause you to lose the effects of the glitch.

It -may- be of use in Oil Ocean 1 but I don't know yet. That's something I need to look at.

EDIT: Ok looked at Oil Ocean 1 as Sonic and Knux again and it turns out the glitch is pretty useless here :( It's really hard to pull it off and if you do it messes up how the character walks. Basically if you saw what Miles did to RA Met 2, that is what happens.

I think Oil Ocean 1 as Sonic and Knuckles and Oil Ocean 2 as Sonic are maxed now, unless werster can find a way to get it under 5 minutes :(

Ok while racing in S2K I accidently found another 10 rings along the bottom near the gas tank. I was told that some people already may know about it but might have missed something else. Anyway here it is.So 297 is now max for OO1K :D

The second one I recorded for miles.

Metropolis 1 Sonic 78,900 feel free to skip the last bumper bit I was having -some- trouble with it >_>

Ok I know double posting is bad, infact triple posting is worse but I really wanted to bump this topic so that you guys could see this. I entered debug mode on to the sound select screen and went back to the main title screen. For some strange reason oil ocean kept playing in the background in the main title screen and level select screen O_o. Infact it still played it when I went to metropolis and there are no sound effects.

Can someone explain to me what the hell happened there? >_>
Title: Re: The Random .giz Topic

^ I don't remember the exact details, but I roughly remember what happens without looking at your .giz.

The debug code doesn't work in the Options Menu, first of all. But the last four entries of that code -- 01 01 02 04, happen to be Sonic 2's launch date the extra continues code, so you *did* activate a cheat. The problem is in how that cheat is coded.

If the game wants to play, say, sound test music 02, it uses an 82 in the code -- that's why Sonic 1's sound test starts at 80. When you activate that cheat, it's supposed to play a ring sound, but whoever coded it failed to add 80 to the sound test number, causing it to play nothing. That code that tries to load a nonexistent sound is responsible for the game's music and sound effects failing to respond from that point onwards.

Metropolis 3 as Sonic - 76,200. I missed 200 points. The telstar where I tried to do the final floor glitch and the other telstar right before the boss fight. I found that one out after I made this giz, the second giz shows you this. I wasn't going to put this up untill I made it better but werster wanted to know how I got that 800 combo so enjoy it while it's there. When I make it better I will put that one up instead :)

Metropolis 1 Knuckles - 79,800. This should be maxed now. Thanks to werster for telling me how to do that glitch to get the 800 combo. I think he said that you have to do a full jump and then glide a frame before you hit the bottom of the cylinder.

This one I tried to glide to get the rings but failed and got stuck in the wall XD. Recorded it for werster, thought he might like it x)

Triple digit videos! At this rate I'll be done by the end of next year. I think Zeupar wanted this one...

Mystic Cave 2 Knuckles Score: 40500. Ick, if the stupid bug didn't disappear everytime you go up I could get 900 more, otherwise i don't see anything else to improve.

Metropolis 1 Knuckles: Score 81800. Kick your ass FF <_< This was actually fairly simple...
Edit: 81900. Gragh, those stupid 5 telfish all come out, but i can only hit the last one at better odds then 1/1000 -_-

Metropolis 1 Sonic Score: 79500. God I -hate- Tails, seriously :\

Metropolis 2 Sonic Rings: 274. Man, just Ring Attacking is -weak-
Edit: 276. Still weak, but MAN I WANT THAT LAST ONE SOMEHOW.

Metropolis 2 Knuckles Rings: 274. Same :/

Chemical Plant 1 Knuckles Score: 90900. -Whew- that was tight. <_<

Chemical Plant 1 Sonic Score: 86200. BLARG I can get this to sub 4 but those fucking pipes... >:|
Edit: 86700. Fuck those tubes, seriously. Also I cannot -believe- i hit both of these right on the 59.

Carnival Night 1 Knuckles: 0:55. Blah, messed up the last glide a bit, and I dunno what I was thinking on that last hit. :\
Edit: 0:53. Maaaaaaan, there is still more in this but i cbf doing it >_<

Carnival Night 1 Tails: 0:42. So close to a 41, silly boss!!! However I'll take this cause actually zipping to that boss isn't consistent :\
Edit: 0:41. Hella yeah!
Edit: 0:39. Man Romulo is so bad, lol.....

Carnival Night 1 Sonic: 0:41. Sonic has to move around differently, or at least I couldnt move it around the other one. Can't take this one down much either :)

Sorry Luxray I would watch them but for some reason it won't work on gens+ or dega and I am using the correct rom >_> Anyway two more gizs:

Green Hill 1 0:18 Sonic 1 GG using the SMS version using an alternative strat near the sign post from bertin's vid on TSC.

This one is for werster. Oil Ocean 1 Knuckles SA. Unfortnatley I mucked up the final combo and was 400 points short from my record :( I was starting to get annoyed with the level so sorry werster but you will have to make do with this, but at least you see how I got 90,400. This also shows you where all 297 rings are :)

lol Cruizer.

Gens+ has such shitty GG emulation that if you try to record a giz, it will record -nothing-. Did you notice that even you couldn't play it back on your own system? :P

For future reference I recommend the rerecording Dega (http://www.pcc.me.uk/~peter/dega/downloads/dega-1.16pre1-win32-z80jb.zip) used at TASvideos, which I'm pretty sure is what FF is using. (given the .mmv extension >_>)

Anyway just in case anybody wanted to see it, here is a mmv of me getting the TA record on Sky Base 2 - 0:08. Those cannons are a nightmare >_> but remember to use small jumps when going up between the cannons (GG version).

Sky Base 2 - 311,000. Really easy to do. Just make sure you die twice to get the 10 rings, finish before 20 seconds and run towards the signpost at some speed to get the 10k from the sign post. Just use the markings on the floor to indicate where to start running.

Scrap Brain 1 - 47,200. This was pretty easy to do but really tight on time, I finished on 0:29. Use GG version to view this.

#soniccenter wont tell me anything about this, but I found this not too long ago. The first time I never got on the left fo the block, and fell right through. I've never seen it, so who knows...

General level play was horrid, took a lot of tries to get the clip. Well?

Death Egg 1 Sonic - 314 rings. I can't believe I found 3 hidden rings by accident XD Tails now has a new max of 341 rings :)

Angel Island 2 Tails - 419 rings. Another easy RA on S3. I'll try and do Sonic's one soon.

The extra combo I found in DE1S. Fuzzerd was curious as to how I did this so here it is :)

FF and I have been working on this for a couple of days, and today it is completed. It's a proof-of-concept run for S3K with two players, with pretty much all the tricks that werster and I will be using.

WHAT THIS RUN INCLUDES
HC2 death-glitch
MG2 level skip
IC1 level skip
LB1 level skip (new method, through the spikes, not the flybot method)
FB1/2 slope glitch
SO1 Knuckles path (2 player glitch)
LR1 path through the floor
HP quick kill
DE2 2 player glitch

WHAT THIS RUN DOES NOT INCLUDE
CN1 gravity skip (only saves ten seconds, couldn't work it out)
An optimal IC1 level skip - I ended up in Knuckles' boss, so I guess this shows that the run is not dead if you end up there
The Leap of Faith ;_;
Either of the LR2 skips

I deliberately didn't optimise it, to simulate not having perfect luck in a speedrun. I did leave lots of cool things in there though :)

Total time: 37:58 (that's 12 minutes faster than the current SDA run!)

EDIT: would kinda help to add the file >_>

Thankyou fuzz for giving me for first fricken video in what seems like 15 years. My skills are appualing right now :(

Flying Battery 2 Tails: 1:25. Blah! I know I can beat this but for some reason in real runs that glitch is weirdly hard! I'll do sonic and knux runs once i get the savestate :o
Edit: 1:20. I can prolly just get 1:19, but its weird that what seems to be a better run than this can get 1:21. Whatever <_<

Flying Battery 2 Sonic: 2:19. This is complete rubbish, just a test run for FF.
Edit: 2:16. Still pretty rubbish, but it's also still an improvement <_<
Edit: 2:03. FUUUUCK YESSS. Laser skip first go on that cycle I am happy even thoguh this is really easy shit yay!

Hydrocity 1 Knuckles: 0:50. Ehhhhh, good enough :\
Edit: 0:46. Figured out a nice boss strat. Life 61.

Lava Reef 2 Sonic: 0:24. Wow, the step zip -and- the spindash through the blocks are bloody easy.
Edit: 0:22. Yeah ok this ones gotta be perfect otuside of TAS.

Star Light 1: 0:23. How the bloody hell does no one have this. I thought sonic 1 was actually like, you know, good times and such. This baffles me, especially considering I could manage 22 with some guts.

Star Light 1 Score: 68530. Does just no one else do that jump...?

Green Hill 2 Score: 74630. Absolute rubbish. Low 28, I mean come on how can a low 28 be a record, I had so much more time here. To bad this ain't Chaos...
Edit: 75630. WHATEVER HORRIBLE SHIT I FOUND SOMETHING NEW AS WELL ANOTHER 2000 OR SO IN THIS RAAAAAAAAGE!!

Spring Yard 1: 0:23. Eh.

Hilltop 2 Rings Knux: 279. Due to FF bouncing off them enemies for ~700,000 score for hilltop i decided to do rings as that would be different from score now. Then I was like, why couldnt this be perfect. Then it was.

Hydrocity 1 Sonic: 0:52. Pretty simple so long as you get the jump out of the water right at the start. Life 99 on the check, second try lol

Not sure where else I could put this, but I found an odd zip in Hill Top 2. A simple spindash from the left into the crate zipped me just into the wall to the right. I moved Sonic a little to the right for the screenshot. Looking at the map, I don't think this is useful. Even so, I'd assume its some 1/1000 TAS manipulatable trick. Wonder if it'd work elsewhere...

Flying Battery 1 showing how to pick up an extra ring from the capsule as Knuckles, making the record 408 rings :) I'm guessing that's why people could only get 407 because knuckles can't jump over the capsule fully like Sonic and Tails can.

For Strong Bad. Well you know me can't resist looking at a combo :P This is to show how to get the bottom red drill robot first and then get to the wall. In that was the first time I managed to pull off that superglide off the 3 robots :D However, I failed the bit right at the end because I ws expecting the 2nd drill robot to come back and the thing buggered off >_>

Another one for Strong Bad, this time to help me. This shows the stair glitch in Lava Reef 1 which you can use to get the big ring. I can pull this off easily as Sonic and Knuckles, but I can't seem to pull it off as Tails so I need someone to see if it can be done as Tails because I don't think it can :(

Hilltop 2 Sonic Rings: 276. RAGE I WANT THOSE LAST THREE! Also 276...so close to perfect...does this remind anyone of metro 2...? <_<
But yeah seriously I hadn't RA'd this till today. I really think this was put quite well:
<DsS> new maxes?
<DsS> do people just not try or something? <_<

Hilltop 1 Knuckles Rings: 186. Yeah this one gets big scores too.

Hilltop 1 Knuckles Score: 586900. RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGE
Edit: 845700. Eh, it's pretty good. The ending was good enough to squeeze another hit in...but...

Lava Reef 1 Sonic - Time: 1:41. Had this from months ago but thought it was too shit to post. But apparently it's a record. Skip 7 lives to life 92 on check 1. Then skip 15 lives to life 77 on the last check.

Carnival Night 2 Sonic - Time: 1:27. Now this is some shit.

Sandopolis 2 Knuckles: 2:28. Complete rubbish. Not supposed to stop at check 2. Skip 3 lives there to 194. then skip 88 lives on check 3 to 106.
Edit: 2:19. Yeah that'll do. Made stopping at check two ok. Skip 24 lives on check 1 to life 174. Skip 32 lives to life 142 on check 2. Skip 47 lives on check 3 to life 95. Then finally skip 23 lives on check 4 to life 72. Check abuse is boring to record as well ok <_<

Hydrocity 2 Sonic: 0:27. I seem to have alot mroe trouble with this than others. Life 34 I think.

Hydrocity 2 Tails: 0:27. Easier certainly, but there are easier records than this. 84 maybe.
Edit: 0:26. Life 86. Came across this strat on accident for the SS run. >_>

Launch Base 1 Tails: 2425000. -99900 for extra time bonus. This one I'm pretty certain is maxed.

Sonic 2 Oil Ocean 2 as Knuckles can now go up to 271 rings.

I knew there was a way of doing it. Here I am using the monitor glitch to get inside the wall to get 6 more rings. As you can see you only get one shot at this and timing it is horrible. If you timed it right i.e. Knuckles is on the wall, but the monitor isn't broken, you can then glitch through the wall.  Just go down a bit so Knuckles will get into the wall. Then press and hold left to zip to the right. However, there is still no perfect bonus. There are another 3 rings hidden inside the wall where you do the mega glitch but I can't see a way to get to them :(

It's a GMV so you can also see the input. I'll try and make a video of this sometime. It will take a while :(

Here's me messing around in CP2-K trying to sub 3 score. Just about my best run ever is in here is when I make it to the 3rd pipes at 1:17. If I can just make it at 1:16 to set me up rather than having to wait a second, I think I can get sub 3.
PS: My best complete run in this .giz is 3:33 I think; I make it to the third set of pipes at 1:20 and have a mediocre rest of the run. My best complete run ever is in 3:24. I'll get there.

Just wanted to show this. I was trying to do the zip in MG2 but instead of falling down, I walked on top of the structure. I went to the far end and saw a lovely surprise there XD

For mike. I sort of made up my own way of doing the zip in MG2. It does work I just need to look into it a bit more so I can do it consistently. I can almost do it all the time :)

For SB. I said in IRC that I could make Sonic vibrate after the zip in MG2. Sonic resets after the screen shakes. To view this use the MG2 zip savestate.

Flying Battery done with Tails, showing how to pick up an extra ring from the beginning two capsules, bringing the record to 409 rings.

Still not the max, seeing how you can get another ring from the two capsules, and you can pick up 9 more rings (at the cost of your shield.)

So if anyone wants to do a RA with all these tricks, you could get a total of 419 rings in this stage. But I don't want to >__>

also do note that this is with a Gamecube controller. I can no longer use this baby (http://www.itechnews.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/mad-catz-street-fighter-iv-fightstick-tournament-edition.jpg) which was used to record Angel Island 2 - Sonic (which had some of my best spindashes of all time.... Fuzz and SB seemed to have trouble with this, and in fact so did I. Came back to it today, literally first attempt results in a 31, and second attempt got this.

Launch Base 2 Sonic: 0:29. Fuck it SB was right, 28 is what I want :(
Edit: 0:28. This turned out to be easier than I thought, didn't even need a 16 first boss, which isn't hard tails was just being a dick this time.

Flying Battery 1 Tails: 1:27. Life 68 on the check. A good solid run, it's nice to see a level uses a trick that you know isnt a glitch for a change.

IceCap 2 Sonic: 0:39. Stopped at the end didn't end up costing me time, because all the slopes I hit here were simply beautiful.

Mushroom Hill 1 Tails: 0:38. Improving right now, this'll go to 37, maaaaybe 36, we'll see.
Edit: 0:36. BOOM SHAKA LAKA

Mushroom Hill 1 Sonic: 0:34. Settle down kids....

Ice Cap 2 Tails: 0:39. Because Romulo is a little bitch and thought 54 was good. Speaking of little bitch, this level... >:|

Edit: Redid all of Launch Base 1
Sonic: 0:45. Insta shield yeaa
Tails: 0:46. Boring yeaaa
Re-edit: 0:45. Amazingly, discovered this boss strat while figuring out how to score attack the level.
Knux:  0:48. Only tricky one with the jump at the start. Mleh

Launch Base 1 Knuckles: 2406000. -500 for hitting the signpost 6 times. Could well be perfect?

Weird oil slope thing going on here O_o You will need S2 rom for this. Sorry it's in gens11a but I was using it at the time and I don't think I can replicate this again on gens :(

574 Marble Garden 2 Sonic.

In case you're wondering, this beats the old record by 1. As you will notice in the video, that 1 ring makes a world of difference.

^And a score of 62100, which is 2nd place, and easily beatable but no one is going to because the score attack sucks way too much for it.
excellent work SDM.

[11:47pm]   <Strong_Bad>   so I finally got HC1-K 680 rings .giz'd and i accidentally went to Submit Statistics
[11:47pm]   <Strong_Bad>   :/

After many MANY 660 and 670 runs on my GCN controller, the second run after I finally fixed my preferred controller (http://teamspooky.com/content/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/sf4_te_controller1.jpg) I achieved 680.
Additionally, in this run I elegantly demonstrate the most efficient manner of beginning of one of the many long-ass combos in the top right corner whilst I have the ring count of around 208 I believe. Spindash into the lower fly, jump while going uphill on the slope and then superglide on the other fly up into the wall, then kill the tankbot and glide on over to do more madness that I didn't want to do in a ring attack run.
By my count, the score for this run is 72400.

EDIT on the 21st of October:
[09:35pm]   <Strong_Bad>   SDM: http://i54.tinypic.com/2jaaiia.jpg do you understand my rage right now
[09:35pm]   <Strong_Bad>   imo you do
[09:35pm]   <Strong_Bad>   (background b is off to show the monitor, it was on during the run ofc)
[09:35pm]   <SDM>   clearly.
[09:35pm]   <werster>   XD!
[09:36pm]   <Strong_Bad>   yes I know werster
[09:36pm]   <Strong_Bad>   i am so angry

and on that note, I give you:

680 HC1-T (http://soniccagedome.com/videos/Strong%20Bad/Gens+%20Recordings/Sonic%203%20&%20Knuckles/Rings/Hydrocity%201%20-%20Tails%20680.giz)
score on this run: 72500.

It's still worth watching, especially the dramatic boss fight at the end.

I can finally say after like 10000000000000000000000000000 tries I finally got it.

I did this so you guys won't have to play the hack. (If you guys want to anyway.) I might do .giz files of the good ending in most of the character hacks.

So here's what happened... I was fooling around in a different part of the level trying to get the spike squeeze to work... I never needed to!

Flying Fox's original path was legit, it just needed one last tweak: the camera hax that I was trying to shove everywhere else!

Without further ado, here is the new perfect max for Knuckles in Hydrocity 2: 449 Rings.

Me and SDM had a discussion about this and if I remember we both thought that there would be no improvement to HC2S rings. Mainly because of that big ring just before you meet Knuckles. Unless something else comes up... *shrugs*

Here's a random .vbm... does that count as a random .giz?

Sonic Advance (U), a so-far useless Cosmic Angel 2 wall entry and zip.  I don't know if it's been found before, but if it hasn't, it's probably because my time attack route is weird.

I got the actual zip on this recording's 5th attempt of the level.  Sorry for making you fast-forward through the rest, but the 1st attempt is also kind of interesting, so I figured I'd include it.

This only happens with this game. When I played S1 on Fusion, it ran at 60 FPS. I am playing at Sonic Chaos and it also runs at 60 FPS, but Sonic 2 only runs at 50 FPS. I don't know why. EDIT : now it's fixed.
I named this file like that to distinguish if from the Genesis version, but since it still causes trouble, I renamed it right now.
