Title: The Sonic Chatroom
Post by: Eis Makai on December 10, 2008, 01:34:17 pm
We all know there are chatrooms here. But only about a 1/10th of the site's members are there. I suppose none of the others know how to get to it, hook up to it, or something that.

I ANNOUNCE TO ALLLL SONIC CENTER MEMBERS! Come to the Chatroom, don't just post on the forums or only compete and never are in the forums. 30% of the members here total are like that, 30% do both Compete and Forumate, 20% sign up once and are never seen again or here for a few months then are never seen again, 10% of the members are in the chatroom. 10% are in all 3.

SO what do you think about this? What can we do to invite other members to the chatroom? Members can just sign up for the chatroom at least if they are signing up once and never seen again, or the forum. It saddens me that this is like the mall. You see people there, and most you never see again for almost your whole life. The only ones you see again are the employees usually.

So I wonder what can happen if more members sign in to the chatroom and like fill it up.

Agreed.

And if it lags out on you every 6 seconds (like mine), then use a Firefox addon called ChatZilla. (add-on search it). And to get into the TSC Chatroom from there, type:
irc://204.11.32.123/soniccenter
in the adress bar. (It opens in a new window)

Then it'll act perfectly normal, using the nick you've specified for ChatZilla instead of asking each time. (You still will need to identify it, though)

My computer fails because I have Vista and IRC or most Java applications lags horribly or doesn't even work. And i'm not much of the social type. I'm too self contious to try it either. So yeah. You'll probably not see much of me. =(

Trust me, I've been a total idiot, yelled at everyone, attacked people on personal levels, BS'd, redeemed myself, competed, Mafia'd, been rickroll'd, praised, b&...

But because I am a good person most of the time, and I can now prove/replicate my times if asked (in addition to being an awesome player ^_^), the people here still accept me...  It's thanks to the people here that I remain ever vigilant in my view of the Gamer Spirit!

I loves me some TSC...  and honestly, regardless of who you are, as long as you're yourself (and you're legit on the boards and not an intentional troll), then TSC will accept you...

LONG LIVE TSC!

come on in anyway just to test the waters.  you might like it and may end up having a better time here now that you know more people.

besides, any past social problems that may have existed through the forums or another site and forgotten pretty fast by everyone...except me as I remember everything o_o

I've been in the chatroom nearly every day for the past year and a half. Save for a) when I was banned for revealing lucario was in brawl (>_>) b) vacations c) unable to use my comp otherwise.

It is an awesome place and a good place to sit around and talk when I have little else to do~

Also a bunch of popular TSC fads originated (or at least, spread) on the chat. Mafia I think, iSketch (not sure if that counts), LandGrab, Magic, Stef's "Songs as Answers"...

Speaking of which I demand we play another round of SaA at some point. Maybe when the people with decent answers all show up again and are willing (stef, genus, mike, some other folks. I actually care now too because I have real songs with actual names besides "Theme of" and such.)

Up until my second router broke, I was in the chat pretty much every day.  After that, since I enjoy being online with my 360, I stopped showing up.  I stopped in a couple times (the second time, unnoticed, despite an "I has returned" opening line when others actually were present to see it [especially PPA, who says "Hi" to everyone who comes in 90% of the time).  For the past couple weeks, I've been popping in whenever possible since I had to send my 360 in for repairs (or, in this case, replacement).  I might occasionally pop in again, but the chances will be even less since I have to re-download all my content to be able to play them offline (and with over 220 Rock Band songs and a few Live Arcade games, it'll be a very long time before I get around to everything).

Wait, do you have to pay to re-download said content? If so it's bollocks, if not MS did -something- right.

Re-downloading any content is completely free.  I'm glad it is, or I'd have to blow at least 15k points to get everything back.

Yes, and his favourite word proves that, I suppose? Also this (http://www.soniccenter.org/members/shadow_jacky/sonic_adventure_2_b/scores/crazy_gadget/mission_5). And this (http://www.geocities.com/ratchetsage/sjcomment.txt).

The ones who contribute the most to the chat are generally the ones who haven't competed or have retired/become sick of it.

14 replies out of 1 day I had posted this.

I suppose if people actually read this topic, they might be more inclined to get into the chatroom instead of just filling up the server by signing up once and not returning ever. I suppose that many members signing up is hard on the server.

Ya! Get yer butt in thee chatroom! You are punished, now you must go into the chatroom for the rest of your days! -"Said by the one who was banned from the chatroom at one time"

JK! It is your free will to get in if you want, but just go in if you never had seen people at all. Get to know the members here better. Don't be so shy. Just visit and see how ya like it. I guarantee it is fun in there.

I'm pretty sure that was 92%/me shot

But seriously, it's a great place.  I probably wouldn't be here past the first time I 0p-ed Advance 3 times if it weren't for the chat.  And it's fun.

Oh? Let's see...
Let's look at the 17 most active people on the chatroom, along with the date they last submitted a stat:
1. Gerbil - insert :Pyramid here08/09/08
2. Stefan - a.k.a. the typo master!15/08/08
3. Rolken - ...he competes?...owait I guess so:01/03/08
4. RR - wants you to email him a dreamcast!08/12/08
5. "n" - call him that; he insists you do so.08/12/08
6. DsS - :D D: :D12/12/08
7. Sondow - does standard preschool business every morning?...07/12/08
8. PPA - is a furry!27/08/08
9. Achlys - his life is end \(^o^)/17/08/08
10. MK - is a spic...?06/12/08
11. Quartz - needs to pay attention! >_>16/09/08
12. genus - often wins arguments by default16/01/08
13. mike - is not retired yet?!06/08/08
14. SJ - (shit!)01/12/08
15. SkyL - AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH09/12/08
16. bertin - insert random comment here11/12/08
17. Cherry - would rather have a tiger :(comedy 31/12/69 option

From what I see, out of the top 17 chatters, 16 have submitted stuff this year, and 8 have submitted stuff this month. So...I don't know where you're getting such silly ideas... >_>

For those of you who are wondering why I made the cutoff at a seemingly arbitrary value, note that there is a rather large gap between the number of lines cherry has spoken and the number of lines upth (at #18) has spoken.

Ya! Get yer butt in thee chatroom! You are punished, now you must go into the chatroom for the rest of your days! -"Said by the one who was banned from the chatroom at one time"

We could always just remove access to the forums and require that all communication be through the chatroom. Just a thought.

Also the above guarantee is not guaranteed, especially if you visit while everyone is at lolschool or lolwork, or is lolslp. Just because there are 30 people in the chatroom doesn't mean that there's 30 people active.

But seriously, it's a great place.  I probably wouldn't be here past the first time I 0p-ed Advance 3 times if it weren't for the chat.  And it's fun.
I'm sure I've mentioned this in chat more than once, but my original intent was to submit stats once and never come back. Why do you all keep me here >_>If I hadn't joined the chatroom I probably would have left here by the end of 2006.

There's a chatroom?

*flyby shot
Yeah I was surprised too :O

Note: If there's a spelling mistake or a wrong word somewhere in the post, blame the fact that I got logged off before I could finish posting and had to retype a good deal of it.
Title: Re: The Sonic Chatroom
Post by: Stefan on December 12, 2008, 04:57:11 pm
I think it is important to point out that submitting one stat in the span of a year does not constitute activity, int he slightest. I am tired of competition, but I have submitted a stat int he last few months. That doesn't mean I actively compete; I got a single stat in a spur of the moment playing frenzy.

Also, one stat a month is hardly people who compete on a regular basis. I think it summarily proves OSG's point that the most active are the least likely to be actively competing.

Fuck internet-only stores.

They don't let me physically look at the product beforehand, for one thing. As an example, I often look through some pages of a book that looks interesting, whether I buy it or not.

For two, my mall isn't often overcrowded.
Title: Re: The Sonic Chatroom
Post by: Aitamen on December 15, 2008, 10:42:53 pm
Why would it being overcrowded matter?

Further, I fail to see what you can do at a store you can't do online?

flip through a few pages of a book?  ok, so there's the .pdf for it...

)I'll assume the only reason you would pay for it is because you see piracy is wrong)

For cards, I'm guessing you don't mean, like, booster packs?  If that's the case, why would examining them before buying them matter?

accessories... I'm not exactly sure what this is referencing...  info?

Buying shit online invariably involves waiting, and the chance that said item gets lost in the post

And eBay isnt 100% completely trustworthy
Title: Re: The Sonic Chatroom
Post by: Aitamen on December 16, 2008, 05:06:54 am
ebay/paypal run refunds, most of the time, if the seller or the mail can be faulted...

I've done this bit before...

also, why does everyone seem to be so impatient when it comes to gear?

I fail to see the reason for rushing to get something...  it usually costs more, which means less stuff...

I go to the mall too. Especially just stores around here, like Walmart or 48 Hours. Down at the mall (which is 25 miles away), I go to GameStop where I can get games instantly and not waiting a day for it when I can get it within 30 minutes. Aitaman your opinion is contradictable therefore, you like using internet, I like to do things when they are tangable.

So yea, Aitaman try to back yourself out of this one. The one thing Ebay doesn't beat is the Mall. Amazon likes to rip people off, I know my friend tried Amazon and they ripped him off by not sending the product only keeping the money he paid for. And he waited over 2 weeks and Amazon promised within 3-5 days, and he didn't get it. He was mad.

We don't have any malls here. Or very few or very small ones. Thank god those temples of greed and destruction haven't reached our shores yet!

I almost always buy games on the internet (especially now that the USK logo is ridiculously gigantic), but still go out to buy manga and magazines.

Iceman, you REALLY need grammar lessons... or a few more vocab quizzes where failing means knuckle-breaking... >_>

Also, for reference, the biggest problem I have with the mall is it's dependent on where you live...  my job isn't, my gf isn't, and my primary form of entertainment isn't... why should my shopping be?

That, and the nearest mall is 128 mi. away (about 200 kilometers, if my math is any good, today)

These days whenever I'm on there I'm talking to people like Cherry (not a TAer), Mike (not as prominent as he was...semi-retired?), PPA (not the most prolific TAer, most of his stats look to be from 2007), Rolken etc...these aren't the leaders of the TAing pack. I infrequently post times but I wouldn't considre myself an active TAer either. Time zones to consider though I suppose.

I personally think that consistancy is more important when it comes to submissions...
