Title: A record that will hold for a REALLY long time.
Post by: SadisticMystic on October 31, 2004, 01:12:48 am
I just played a basic run through Emerald Hill 1.

Clock Start Time - 1:59:49 AM, 2004/10/31
Flagpost Crossed - 1:00:14 AM, 2004/10/31

The run itself wasn't very good, but based on the official timing mechanism that monitored the game, it says I just completed Emerald Hill 1 with a new record of -3575 seconds, for a whopping 3595-second improvement off the existing record.

Let's see how long that record will hold.

UPDATE: As of the fifth Northern Hemisphere iteration of this challenge (2008/11/02), SonicAD and SpinDashMaster currently hold the record with -3578.

I'll give it a shot on the last Sunday of March.

Until then I think you're safe.

Thought I'd revive this topic, as, after all, the end of October is fast approaching again.

While the post isn't here (got purged along with everything else between it and July), SM said something along the lines of holding this annually in each hemisphere (October for North, March for South).

You know what? I might just give this a go....but I'll likely screw up the run D:

Tonight's the big race!  Get ready and keep an eye on that clock!  I'll be recording both Gens and the system clock, in case I manage to beat 25 this time, so the legacy can be preserved.

Well, the results are in.

Only two competitors from the Northern Hemisphere took up the challenge - though there's still a bit of time for more entries from central and western America.

1st - Cybrax: -3568 seconds (32 in real time)
2nd - SM: No completion

See this fish?

Of the 3 runs I had time for, the fish scored kills against Sonic on 2 of them, which probably doubled its lifetime kill total over the 11+ years I've had the game.

Not a good performance.

Not long now until the Southern Hemisphere's attempt at this challenge - maybe I'll actually be able to take part this year. X)

And you're pretty much going at it alone because Andy's probably not going to do it and I don't think we have any other Southerners. (Hemisphere-wise anyways.)

Dude look at this record

Time Started: 11:30 P.M. 4-25-06
Flagpost Crossed: 9:30 P.M. 4-25-06

Prievious record

Start:1:31:00 PM 5-23-99
Finish:1:31:45 PM 5-23-99

So I finished in -7200 seconds that's a 7155 second improvement on my part

Playing with Nomad on a plane as you went backwards over the International Date Line or something?  Though why that would only give you -2 instead of -24 (and why it would be -2 hours exactly instead of -1:59:xx...adding 60 minutes to a -3 time zone change doesn't work because planes don't fly that fast and because you only get 10 minutes of "real time")--let's just say: There's a reason we don't make things up like that.  Notice how you can no longer submit records?

yehhh... y'see, the difference is, the first poster was being witty by running the level over the 1-hour change turning back the clock due to Daylight Savings Time, whereas you're just being an idiot.

And once again, we come to that time where thread necromancy is NOT a sin.

It's almost time for the next iteration of this challenge.  Who's taking part?

I'm going to give it a go this year. Considering I don't even have work and I'll surely be up this time.

Maybe I should practice. >_>

1. RPG (0:23, -3577)
2. GerbilSoft (0:38, -3562)
3. SBW (no completion)

There's still one hour for SDM, two for Rolk, and three for Quartz. Get ready, guys!

No completion. :(

I got 2 attempts in. The first was a victim of last year's winner... THE FISH!

The second, I did one or two too many taps into the speed shoes and overshot the invincibility. I restarted at 1:00:02.

Periodic bump, since it's relevant on the hemisphere with more players.

Sunday, 11/4 1:59am!

Edit: The first one. >_>

Looking at the topic history (http://www.soniccenter.org/pisg/pisg-soniccenter.html) looks like my -3572 was the best, if not the only one. Woo.

Necromancy is a sin. Double posting is epic fail.

BUT

It's that time of year again!

Hopefully I'll do it; I was invited to a party and may still go, but if not I'll play Warmachine until the first 1am when the store closes and from there it's practice. Who'll reign this year?

Do a different level this year...lets get a new earth-shattering record.
I suggest something 3D.

1. EH1 it has always been, EH1 it shall remain. RR fails.

2. Besides I can't play 3D from my computer. Y'know, where the accurate timekeeping method is.

And we're back for another year of this! I believe the Brits flip back at 2AM this Sunday morning the 25th, and the Americans flip back a week later. Let's see if ya'll can beat my record folks!

Tomorrow night! Us Americans strut our stuff. I will most likely (read: definitely) be there. I propose a super event on #tscracenight as it is effectively a race.

Eh, we can just do it in the main room. Especially since it's just east coasters going first and the westies have to wait awhile.

eredani and blueblazer_8 logged on and got a -3580, so unless stanski or aitamen log on next year, I think this contest is pretty much over. :(

Related, I too got a -3579.
