Title: ITT, we TA anything not tracked by TSC
Post by: Bilan on August 26, 2005, 03:45:16 pm
Well, the title says it all I guess, and just for the record, "official" is nowhere to be seen.

To start things off I have a few:

SA:DX (I know what your thinking)

Emerald Coast-Tails-'Final' Check-0:26
Twinkle Park-Knuckles-2:24:90
Speed Highway-Tails-Sonic's Capsule-1:26:80

AR was not used to do any of those times, its perfectly possible to get said characters into said levels.

Panzer Dragoon Orta

Episode 3 Boss- 0:14:xx

I had my fastest Boss times all written down but I've misplaced the sheet of paper I wrote them on. In any case, I'll redo these on Holiday, as my Dad's taking his Xbox, and it'll probably rain at least once in the week :P

Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire

First Hall of Fame- 15:54:12 (Terrible, frankly)
Cycling Road- 09:15

Meh, I've yet to do Burning Ranger's Bosses, but they are on my agenda, as are a few other things, Golden Sun being one, and the rest shall be secret until I get round to doing them :o

Feel free too add contributions whenever you feel like it, I daresay Mike will post his 'G/S/C defeated everything' time when he reads this.

I'm also going to use this topic to announce that as of tomorrow I will be on holiday for a week, so until then my friends, Happy TAing! (Although I will be in the Chat for a few more hours going by the time of this post :P)

I swear I did not see that until after I posted. XD

Not to mention the Banjo-Tooie 1-Jiggy run of 59'35" - which will be beaten, mind you. EDIT2: True to my word, 58'09".

You picked Totodile, and just fought with that for the whole game, right Mike?

Hmm... I wonder if other starters would have better potential...

If I ever get immensely bored, I may try speedrunning a Pokémon game...

Oh, and the thing about SDA is that you can't record from an emulator... D:

Actually CF, Cyndaquil should be able to whiz through most of the Johto Gyms with relative ease. Some of the Kanto gyms may give it trouble though >_>

Title: ITT, we TA anything not tracked by TSC
Post by: yse on August 29, 2005, 02:10:13 am
Yeah, I used Totodile. Reason: Cyndaquil sucks when it comes to Clair. And to a lesser extent, Chuck too.
'
Cyndaquil owns in the earlier stages, but sucks later on, and therefore I don't go anywhere near it.

Anything not on the site? I once ate a whole watermelon in 5 minutes (rhine peeled). I also desoddered my hand roughly 10 times in 45 minutes, which makes me a lock for that record.

Something or other about duckhunt that I'm too half-assed to copy
On the topic of Duck Hunt, I once attempted a real life version of that, but what they don't tell you is that the cd's and clay plates generally shatter in your direction. Also, the dog generally does not throw cd's/clay/rocks, as the game implies. Also, I also like to use the world also, but if you do get to shoot the duck, you need to ensure that you avoid the body as it plummets earthward, minus its stomach.

I have some Sega Rally times for when I can be arsed to check them.

And it may not be a Time, but its somewhat relevant:

Pokemon Pinball Ruby & Sapphire
Sapphire Table
Normal Speed
1, 775, xxx, xxx

I'll double check that later.

EDIT: Now 2, 368, xxx, xxx

Hey, TSC has a scores panel for almost everything.

And it's not my stat or anything... but highest Life total in MtG I've seen: 506.
EDIT: That doesn't count the time my sister got an infinite life combo out...

</random>

Also I still cannot find my PS memory card for those CTR times :(

Naturally. Seeing as the MtG rulebook has rules covering infinite loops, restricting them, depending on how much life was gained in each iteration it would be unlikely she would reach 506 from, say, 20.

506... that's a lot though.

The most I've personally ever had is eighty-something.
Title: ITT, we TA anything not tracked by TSC
Post by: SadisticMystic on October 12, 2005, 12:29:27 pm
The relevant rule there is 421.2.  The game does restrict repeatable loops, but only insofar as the player is allowed to choose any natural number, and the loop continues that many times.  It's there mainly to enforce that "infinity is not a number" and if you have a combo that can continue indefinitely you don't get to treat it as being truly "infinite"...but you can make it as big as you like, effectively locking in your number of choice so that it will only be trumped if your opponent has a loop of their own and chooses a bigger number.

Of course, in a team game with silver-bordered cards, I've laughed in the face of that rule and ended up with an actual infinite life total.

I've come back to the realm of competitive gaming, but with Metroid Zero Mission of course...

I hope to come back to sonic advance 1 and 2 and adventure, and dare I say adventure 2?

I'm doing a speedrun through M0M right now, just for the hell of it. Multi-segment 100% completion on normal mode. I'm on 31 minutes even at the first save point in Tourian right now. Not bad...but could be better. I'm aiming for sub 1 hour here, so I can finally call myself a 1337 metroid player :D

I've started playing Wario Land 3 again today to play the Golf minigame (lol, I know... :/) and I remembered that it has a Time Attack Mode so I tried out the first stage.

Wario Land 3

N1: Out of the Woods - 1:24 1:16

I'm sure sub 1:20 is possible but there is a lot of perfection involved and enemy manipulation, plus it has to be at Night when enemies are asleep. I'll get sub 1:20 when it's not as annoying. :( Done.

First off, this is my formal confession on the forum (allready done in the chatroom) where I admit to lying about all my times, save for those of the Egg-Go-Round, which are no longer records anyway. I'll get that out of the way.

Anyways, to comment on a few points, Mario Kart DS is indeed a fun game. Not purchasing this while in possession of a DS should warrant a death sentence, though that might just be the fanboy in me.RPG, I take it that you don't snake in MK:DS? Most of your times are decent, but could do with major improvement. I'd be interested to play you online.

Myself, I've barely time attacked, but am working on the cracking of the time trial code for anoter site, which is not nearly as hard as I thought it would be. Pressing up,down, L,R,Y, and A (in that order) while viewing the time under the results section will yield a code, to be employed by Nintendo in official time attack tournaments. The applications for other time-attack sites are obvious. Unlike TSC, however, I have no interest of abusing this knowledge. I feel that I've moved on since my 2 year period of idiocy and supposed self enlightment.

I'm curious to see how long it would take somebody to clear CastleVania:Dawn of Sorrow on a hard file without sequence breaking. For "clear mode", I'd assume around 2 or 3. The Valmanway sword and Abbadon soul would see to thet quick elimination of all enemies. Of course, to get both you'd have synthesize the Abbadon soul, start a new clear file, play through that, and start yet another clear file. As for a normal hard mode without the best weapons and souls, it would likely take 4-5. Julius mode, somewhere around 7-8. Somebody should attempt that. Somebody who isn't me.

Nope I dont snake. Not only do I not know how (lol) but I prefer just racing 'normally' if that makes any sense.

I would accept your offer to play online, but A. I dont own MK:DS, I borrowed a copy from Chuck(Best friend and fellow occasional TSCer under the name IcemanSJ) for about a month before giving it back to him, and B, I tried to go online with it when I had it and it does not compute with my Router :(

In Darkest Night (4, boss): 0:12

Magma P.I. (6): 0:19 [0:24 with ONE extra life piece]
Turn Up The Heat (7, boss): 0:21

Vectorman 1 2 3 (10): 0:24
I Can Dig It (11): 0:13

Mist Chances (13): 0:19 [0:21 with ONE extra life piece]
Fear Cave (14): 0:48

Tank Patrol (20): 1:01 [with ONE extra life piece]
Bad Eggs (21): 0:20
Queen For a Day (22, boss): 1:11

Note that Vectorman levels play much like Gamma levels in SADX, so to get these times I've subtracted the final time from the starting time. (and subtracted any time bonuses picked up, though when TAing that shouldn't come into play.)

It's not "finished", per se, but there's a nifty "expansion pack" called Mystic Realm that adds 40 levels.  Sweet, huh?  I seriously recommend this game to anyone and everyone reading this post right now.  Here's the links; install them in order and it should work.  When prompted, click Open/Run, not Save.
Sonic Robo Blast 2 v1.09.2 (http://cutter.ship.edu/af0916/FinalDemo109.exe)
Upgrade to v1.09.3 (http://clipper.ship.edu/~af0916/1092to1093.exe)
Upgrade to 1.09.3.4 (http://clipper.ship.edu/~af0916/Srb2win_1-09-3-4.zip)
Mystic Realm v4.3 "Expansion Pack" (http://mystic.sepwich.com/srb2wad/files/scr_mysticrealm.zip), run the included MS-DOS Batch to start it.
If those links don't work, tell me and I'll edit 'em.

I've seen Sprint's vids, and he owns me even after jacking up the difficulty.  The only reason I beat him in Techno Hill 2 was because he's using an old version of the game, v1.09.2.

Right, those links are SO downloaded.

EDIT: 3rd link downloads, but then fails when I try to run it :/

EDIT2: I dont get what the HELL Im meant to do with that 4th link. X)

Post by: Thorn on April 20, 2006, 07:40:01 pm
Oh, sorry.  I was in a rush.  For the 2nd and 3rd link, place srb2win.exe in the same folder as the files from the 1st link and let it overwrite the old version.  Same goes for the last one, but there won't be any overwrites.  To play the original game, run srb2win.exe, and for the expansion pack (you should play the original first), run scr_mysticrealm.bat.  Did that clear things up?  I'll check back in 20-30 minutes.
Title: Re: ITT, we TA anything not tracked by TSC
Post by: Bilan on April 20, 2006, 07:58:15 pm
The 2nd link overwrote the 1st link fine.

The 3rd link, even when placed in the SRB2 folder and 'ran', complains that 'fmod.dll' is missing.

Haven't tried saving Link #4 into the SRB2 folder and running it like that yet. Will Link 4 run ok without Link 3 or not?

EDIT: Works YAY :D I love you <3

One question: this topic acts like the Freestyle divisions, right?  I just realized that dying in Mystic Realm after hitting a switch causes it to remain activated, and that stats gotten with Super Sonic still get added to the Statistics page.

I used to be really into TAing Crash Bandicoot 2, but I don't anymore.  Just for fun, here's my rule sheet and some of my "times":

Rules:
•   There are ten (10) Divisions in which to compete, with 132 Subdivisions:
o   Crystal Collection Time Attack (abbrev: Crystal) – a level run which involves grabbing the crystal and finishing the level.  Contains 25 Subdivisions.
o   Level Completion Time Attack (abbrev: Completion) – a level run which involves finishing the level WITHOUT grabbing the crystal or any gems in the process.  It is strongly advised that you attempt this run after collecting the crystal, trying to break as little boxes as possible and NEVER taking the death route.  Contains 28 Subdivisions.
o   Gem Collection Time Attack (abbrev: Gem) – a level run which involves finishing the level and collecting ONE gem during the course of the run.  Contains 40 Subdivisions.
o   Boss Completion Time Attack – a boss run which involves destroying the boss in the fastest time possible.  Contains 5 Subdivisions.
o   Secret Warp Unlock Time Attack (abbrev: Warp Unlock) – a level run which involves unlocking a secret warp spot in the fastest time possible.  Contains 5 Subdivisions
o   Bonus Round Time Attack (abbrev: Bonus Round) – a bonus round run which involves completing the “Bonus Round” section of a level in the fastest time possible.  Contains 22 Subdivisions.
o   Total Times: involves adding together certain times.
Contains 6 Subdivisions:
   Total Time: Crystal – involves adding together all Crystal times.
   Total Time: Completion – involves adding together all Level Completion (NOT crystal) times.
   Total Time: Gems – involves adding together all Gem times.
   Total Time: Bonus Rounds – involves adding together all Bonus Round times.
   Total Time: Secret Warp Unlock – involves adding together all Secret Warp Unlock times.
   Total Time: Bosses – involves adding together all Boss times.
   Total Time: 100% Completion – involves adding together all Crystal, Gem and Boss times.
•   Dying in a boss fight or at the beginning of a level (before hitting the first checkpoint) in order to get a faster warp speed is allowed.  However, restarting at a checkpoint is not allowed.
•   Crystals and gems can NEVER be collected in the same run (with the exception of Hang Eight Speed Gem and Plant Food Yellow Gem, which are impossible to avoid and therefore not eligible as Subdivisions for competition).
•   Rules for length of run:
o   Crystal, Completion, Gem, Warp Unlock, Boss – set the second counter on the VCR to 0:00:00 on the exact frame when the opening room begins to display; the run ends on the exact frame when the screen fades completely to white from the exit room.
o   Bonus –
   For drop-down bonus rounds (e.g. in Turtle Woods and The Pits) the run begins the exact frame when Crash touches the ground, and ends as soon as the console begins to add up fruits and lives.
   For platform bonus rounds (e.g. in Snow Go and Hang Eight) the run begins the exact frame when Crash is able to move off the starting “?” platform, and ends as soon as the console begins to add up fruits and lives.
   For the Training Level – the run includes the cinematic at the beginning, so the run begins at the first frame of the cinematic and ends when the screen goes white.

Crash Bandicoot 2 – Speed Running
Individual Times Checklist

Training Level Completion – 0:38

Turtle Woods Crystal – 1:33
Turtle Woods Completion – 1:34
Turtle Woods Blue Gem – 1:33
Turtle Woods Box Gem – 2:37
Turtle Woods Bonus Round – 0:07

Hang Eight Crystal – 1:09

The Pits Crystal – 2:01

Ripper Roo Completion – 1:29 (this is pretty much a maximum time; the only way you can abuse it is by hitting him the instant he comes down after the Nitro part)

That's it.  I lost interest after that x_x

Dang, Mystic's mod makes SRB2 almost playable. They need to make those the default levels and throw out the crap that is the normal release.

Too bad he didn't mod the controls; it makes Sonic R feel Sonicy. And he must've been smoking crack when he was making those purple goo bosses. "Hm... what's a better idea than fighting a boss moving back and forth erratically over a lava pit? How about making the danger zones INVISIBLE!!!" Uh huh...
Title: Re: ITT, we TA anything not tracked by TSC
Post by: Bilan on April 24, 2006, 05:39:27 pm
Rolk I concur, I hate that Boss. I also concur with what you say about chucking out the 'actual' levels. Aside from Techno Hill. That ones semi-acceptable.

Also Im considering making a website purely for hosting Rankings for SRB2 (hehe) with divisions for each level as Sonic/Tails/Knuckles/Super Sonic.

What? Im addicted already :/
Title: Re: ITT, we TA anything not tracked by TSC
Post by: Thorn on April 24, 2006, 06:20:01 pm
Yeah, you either love it or hate it, huh?  But I think the actual levels are alright.  I wouldn't have gotten used to the controls if Greenflower wasn't there.  I keep playing Spring Hill and Red Volcano because they're the best levels SRB2 has to offer.

I was on the net browsing around, and I stumbled onto a list of commands for the console.  Try "CHASECAM OFF" if you haven't already.  It's a completely different experience, for better or worse (Prismatic Angel Act 1 - ChaseCam = Frustration).

Then open the console and type BIND V "CHASECAM OFF", press Enter, and type BIND B "CHASECAM ON".  That'll allow you to switch views with the V and B keys.  I've gotta go somewhere now; I'll respond tomorrow.

*slaps self on head* I KNEW that I forgot to put something in that PM!
That level select was designed for the original game, which has *gasp!* nine levels.  This level select comes with v1.09.3.  AFAIK, Mystic never intended for that level select to work with his version; he didn't want people to be able to use Super Sonic that early in the game, and the level select grants you every emerald if you've beaten the game with all seven.  He also never intended for the Flame Rift boss to be so difficult, because it moved slower in the old version.  However...
Figure out the rest by yourself... although I guess I'll help if you get stuck.  It's not that hard.

It runs in a window through this (http://mystic.sepwich.com/srb2wad/srb2netv25.zip).  Are there enough downloads for this, or what?  Still, it's a good DL if you ever want to play a netgame; you can set up your character and everything beforehand and kill everyone while they're still setting up in-game.

The pictures are from Jade Coast 1.  Take the left fork from the start, then turn around after passing the point in the picture (note the starpost in the middle-right).

I know, I'm just saying to leave room.  You don't want to have to play the entire game again to get to those levels.  And with Warp Zone, why not skip the levels you can't beat?  It's not cheating if a level requires insane platform jumping with fan-game style controls and you want to skip it.  You'll have zero emeralds, though.

Just tell me when you unlock Spring Hill, which I told you how to get in the PM.  That's the level I really want to compete in.  Makes me all nostalgic and what not.

EDIT:  4"20 Warp Zone.  That'll teach you... something.  I don't know what.

Pfft, bring it on! :O
That was just a filler post so I could see my IP address for the netgame; I forgot the Run command for it.  You really didn't have to answer.

Thanks again for linking me to Sonic: Time Attacked (http://sfghq.emulationzone.org/view_info.php?sec=1&id=194).  I can't believe that most of that game is hand-drawn.  Sonic 2 Beta enemies and Chaotix music were nice touches, too.  As soon as I get good at it I'll post times and links.  My only good stat right now is getting the max link in Undisturbed Paradise 3.

Slide City 1 in 0:44:26: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=VEV373H3

Same for Lightspeed Park 1 in 24 flat: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=R29H5GUM

And Undisturbed Paradise 1 in 31:88, not fantastic but good enough: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=A2GRSNIE

Lightspeed Park 2 in 0:33:28, too lazy to vid right now though.

EDIT: VERY scrappy UP2 in 38:72. Can easily go sub 35, but Im too lazy right now. Instead y'all can play "spot the mistakes" with my vid! http://www.megaupload.com/?d=I4N9VPVA

Also Im gonna encode these to something not stupid and huge eventually.

EDIT: never mind, realised I just had to be faster at this one bit <_<

EDIT2: HOLY SHIT I BEAT FLAME RIFT 2 WITH SONIC! :O!

EDIT3: Aerial Garden 2: 1:29:21

1st check: 0:15
2nd check: 0:39

Okay, I think I'll break the gs93/RPG dialogue here and post my best times for the levels of Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus (PS2). This is a GREAT game to TA! :D

EDIT: Improved some times, probably due to skills aquired through all my hard work T/S/RAing SA2(B).

EDIT2: Well, trihex put a 100% speedrun at SDA, and with the help of those vids, I was able to cut some times of mine. (Though I had already beat him at the Mesa City levels, lol :)) Those times that I achieved with trihex's help are marked with asterisks.

LevelTime LimitMy TimeTime LeftComment
A Stealthy Approach1:171:130:04Blah. Could be improved...though it's a tad difficult since there are no shortcuts and the level is strictly straightforward...
Into the Machine2:152:10 2:060:05 0:09Improvable...but hard. :/ Two main problems: one near the beginning and one near the end. You figure them out yourself... >_>
High Class Heist1:000:57 0:500:03 0:10Considering that I took a shortcut which cut about 5 seconds total, this could definitely be improved... Probably as low as this can go.
The Fire Down Below1:351:10 1:03*0:25 0:32*Probably could be better, but trying to take the shortcut is a bit hard... There are actually two shortcuts here; this needs to be improved...
A Cunning Disguise1:300:390:51(!)Uber shortcut in this level! <3 Could maybe be improved by a second if I try hard enough...
The Gunboat Graveyard1:101:06 1:040:04 0:06I've tried to lower this...but I find it difficult... :( Lowered.
---------------
A Rocky Start1:301:27 1:21*0:03 0:09*Blah. Just...blah. And I like this level, too... :( The shortcut here sure beats all that time wasted staying in the air. :)
Boneyard Casino2:151:530:22A nice shortcut in this level. I like all of Mesa City's levels! :D
Back Alley Heist1:231:120:11This level brings back fond memories of 2D platforming. This could be improved.
Straight to the Top1:170:590:18It would be pure pwnage if you could break the glass covering the exit right from the beginning, but alas, you can only take a smaller shortcut...
Two to Tango1:581:16 1:15 1:100:42(!) 0:43(!!) 0:48(!!!)This has got to be one of the best levels in the history of video gaming. For real. I <3 (x1000) this level! I'm pretty sure this can't go any lower (I could maybe, just maybe 1:15 it). Oh, and the shortcut here is probably the hardest one in the game to pull off. :( 1:15'd :O :O :O 1:10'd :O. 1:09 appears to be possible; 1:08 would be max, most likely.
---------------
The Dread Swamp Path1:351:20 1:030:15 0:32The shortcut here is a little hard to pull off. Other than that, it's not too bad. :o
Lair of the Beast2:021:44 1:36*0:18 0:26*This is a fun level! <3 Especially the chase at the end! Improvable, most likely. Improved.
A Grave Undertaking2:182:05 1:09*0:13 1:09*Bah. Stupid ghosts make this level harder than it needs to be. :/ Uber shortcut, ftw!
Descent into Danger2:081:58 1:500:10 0:18Hardest part is probably all the searchlights after the halfway point. Not too hard to TA overall.
---------------
A Perilous Ascent2:092:050:04This was the hardest level for me to clear in under the time limit. I'm sure this could go much lower, but don't expect me to TA this any time soon...
The Unseen Foe2:252:11 1:44*0:14 0:41*Part of the problem with this level is that you have to use your Invisibility move at certain points throughout the level. And you can't move very fast while invisible... :( I knew of a big shortcut in this level, but was never able to get it to work. After watching trihex's vid, now it's like childsplay. :)
Flaming Temple of Flame2:152:040:11Don't remember any shortcuts here...all skill. :(
Duel by the Dragon2:422:27 2:230:15 0:19Yay, another Carmelita chase Sly level! <3 I love these levels! Too bad there are only two in the game... (the other being Two to Tango...and the intro level doesn't count) A small shortcut is available here. Definitely improveable.

The funniest thing to me about these levels is that it seems that the first levels are the hardest to TA while the later ones get easier (possibly due to more shortcuts/time in later levels)

Well, time to go improve! (Except "A Perilous Ascent", mind you.)
And does not playing this game for two years have an effect on how well you play? >_>;

EDIT: So...I tried TAing this game again...looks like I improved Two to Tango even more~

Sad news.

All my savefiles went corrupt. Which means, most likely, no Mystic Realm Zone for me for a while, unless I get back up to Silver Cavern (Although I guess it werent THAT hard).

In lighter news, to add to my Aerial Garden Ownage:

Starlight Palace: 1:44

As well as:

Vulcan Forge: 1:49
Mudhole Karst: 0:53

Not to mention the Banjo-Tooie 1-Jiggy run of 59'35" - which will be beaten, mind you. EDIT2: True to my word, 58'09".

This time was promptly smashed last night. 53 minutes 17 seconds, and on tape!

A Shadow level without a Times division.

Space Gadget Normal
5:00.02

I really don't see how it can get any lower.

5:00 exactly, maybe?
Title: Re: ITT, we TA anything not tracked by TSC
Post by: Groudon on August 07, 2006, 11:18:54 pm
I'll try to get that, but it'll take a highly accurate end (I spin dash into the Goal Ring, and a few times I released the spin dash a bit too early) to get it.  And what I noticed when slowing taped footage of the level is the time remaining and time elapsed do not add up to 5:00 exactly.  I noticed when they add up, they equal 4:59.99, so it might be possible to finish in 5:00 exactly and finish the Normal mission.

I've gotten 2.37 on Wild Canyon using Sonic.  In fact, I also have a video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kp7SzX4ALI0) of it.
