I know, but the boards are dying, and it's kinda useless for some of this info to just be floating around without anyone using it. You could get a really kick ass time on TC with this thing

I'll try and get the stuff later up today. After this post is up, I'll be uploading 2 of the vids to TSC video database.

Well it looks like SM was able to get my trick to work, as he got 15 seconds in casinopolis as Sonic

also, I still have that crazy Twinkle Circuit Shortcut. I'm too lazy to describe it in detail, so I'll post the short clip. I'd like to hear how SM got through the barrier though. I can see if it's related to my method.

http://media.putfile.com/TwinkleCircuitshortcut (http://media.putfile.com/TwinkleCircuitshortcut)
http://media.putfile.com/TCthingy (http://media.putfile.com/TCthingy)

It's one of the two, or both. Just guessing by file name

EDIT: I got a little time, so I'll briefly explain my strat.

Goto to the hallway leading to the vault. Ya know...with the two big spinning sonic coins? Near the doors leading to the vault is a hole in the cieling. It's actually part of a vent that knuckles can fall through to escape through an upper room when emerald hunting. The wall in the vent is fake though, so you can go through it

But how do you get all the way up there as sonic?

see the platforms the coins are supported on? It curves upward, and towards the direction of the vent. So you can spindash off that and gain enough height to just make it into the vent, and through the fake wall

What good does that do though? It would be useless, since you'd just fall into the vault room. several things have happened to me though when going through the vent

1. end up invault room

2. end up on corner (outer edge) of vault room. Basically, I was able to pass the cieling barrier, but there's another one that prevents you from standing straight on the platform with the eggman thingy. I've been able to get right next to it, but an invisible wall just prevents me from jumping ontop of it

3. Die

4. Game freezes up

5. Land on an invisible platform. yup. There's a small invisible platform up there somewhere near the corner of the cieling of the hallway. Hard to aim for, but it's possible to land. I was hoping that from here. once on top of here, you are outside of the level, or out of bounds. I was hoping that I could spindash around the vault room, and from behind the invisible wall in #2, and just land on the platform, but apparently, the wall extends outside as well!

so that's where my progress basically stopped. The only possible way I could see this being bypassed (for SADX) is perhaps by falling from above, and into the vault room's upper platform, ratherthen spindashing up to it from around the side.

Was this wall removed SM, or is there another alternative to this?

It's down to 13.51 now, and it's STILL slower than both the Knuckles and Tails records on the level.

It sounds like I used a different method than what you may have done, since Cybrax was trying to break the level at the same time and had no luck with the same method.  Mine takes advantage of a whole chunk of floors and walls that are as fake as the Eternal Engine tower on Dreamcast.  GameCube players would end up trying to go through a solid corner.

[EDIT WAR]: No, it's not that.  That sounds like it would yield 9 seconds if it worked, not 13.  I'll try to write a guide on it, and maybe follow up with my first video in a long time.

Heh

interesting

Any chance on a video?

I'll make one too, showing the gamcube stuff. Maybe it could work on dreamcast, and might even be faster :O (honestly, if there weren't any walls, and you timed it perfectly, you could get like...5 seconds.

...Casinopolis has now fallen victim of being a luck level rather than the skill one it previously was. =(

NintenDan's path doesn't work.  You're too low to be able to jump around or over the invisible repelling barrier from that far away.

My path involves parts of the level that normally only Knuckles goes to.  Because Sonic isn't meant to go to those places, the designers didn't bother implementing them mechanically in that version of the level (at least on Dreamcast)--they just drew the objects to make that part of the stage look consistent between the two characters.  But with a series of roundabout jumps, Sonic can indeed get up there, and when it's full of fake walls, you can reap the rewards and step on the capsule in less time than it takes to lose your first ball in the pinball route.

Has anyone confirmed for you that Gamecube can't take that path, or is that just a suspicion at the moment?

How have I not thought about this before?! Indeed I belive there is more freedom when going up there on the DC then in the GC.
