Title: Insight into the wonders (and perils) of the chat.
Post by: yse on October 27, 2005, 05:47:33 am
So I picked up Gems today, and naturally I was pretty damn happy with myself. And $60 was a steal for a new game - most games sell for $100.

Then I found out the following:

[19:17:43] <mike89> does the europe version have the japanese music?
[19:17:51] <mike89> that better be the one i now have...
[19:18:33] <Sprint> if you got gems, the only one with the japanese music is the japanese version
[19:18:41] <mike89> aww, fuck...
[19:18:51] <CosmicFalcon> does the european version have the european music :(
[19:18:56] <mike89> way to screw PAL over!
[19:19:35] <CherryMay> no cf D:
[19:19:54] <CosmicFalcon> does the european version have sor :(
[19:19:55] <CherryMay> it doesnt have SoR/Bonanza Bros either
[19:19:57] <Sprint> i think the music is actually on the CD... but it doesn't use it
[19:20:00] <CherryMay> stupid sega
[19:20:18] <CherryMay> sonic team are a giant failure lately :(

Okay, so there's no Japanese music in Sonic CD. Big deal, I'll play with the sound off. =D

But later...

[19:24:56] <Sprint> also, as another testiment to their complete laziness, no 60Hz mode on the PAL version
[19:25:02] <mike89> ...
[19:25:05] <Sprint> that'd take like... 5 minutes to put in
[19:25:06] <mike89> FUCKING HELL
[19:25:25] <mike89> i'd be better off with SADX for the GG games
[19:25:32] <mike89> and i could probably pick up Sonic CD separate
[19:25:41] <mike89> and Fighters i could download or something
[19:25:57] <mike89> though CD and this computer are a silly mix

Now I'm pissed off. What's the point in getting it if I can't even play at 60Hz? I don't want to play the game at 83% speed! I was gonna use this game for time attacking Sonic CD, Sonic R, and possibly the GG games too (though I have SADX for that). Now, as it were, I've effectively forked out $60 for Sonic the Fighters, and while I was keen on playing that, that price is just a little steep for something I could've downloaded anyway.

One bright spot, though...

[19:32:19] <CherryMay> demos?
[19:32:23] <CherryMay> there were demos?
[19:32:30] <CosmicFalcon> or so I hear
[19:32:31] <CosmicFalcon> like
[19:32:38] <CosmicFalcon> "you can play the genesis games for 5 minutes!"

Which is sorta nullified by the lack of 60Hz mode, but y'know... sorta cool. I think NintenDan mentioned a way to circumvent the 5 minute time limit once, too. :O

But at 50Hz mode I'm very unlikely to start recording for Sonic 2 or 3 for SDA, even if I can circumvent the five minute time limit.

All in all, waste of money. If you're in the PAL region, DON'T GET IT.

What did this have to do with the chat? Nobody knows. o_o

Wow, Aussie dollars are expensive... I want to say it's about $20-$30 US >_>

I'd still get it anyway, if I had a Cube. FPS, ShmeFPS. Then again, I know not what all this PAL-shiz is.

Don't feel too bad, the US version also got ripped off since supposedly, the Japanese version also gets the Streets of Rage series in addition to the Vectorman games.

IIRC, Vectorman is in the US version. IIRC, when my friend brought Gems over, as soon as you turned it on, it said "You have unlocked Vectorman."

It is. I'm just refering to how the U.S. version only got the Vector Man games as extras and how the Japanese version got all three Streets of Rage games in addition to it. I think the official explanation (correct me if I'm wrong) was that SoR was cut to not get a teen rating.

Also yay.

My PC version of Sonic R works.

I've already beaten two of Sprint's times...not saying which, you'll see sometime in the nearish future.

I'm pretty sure that the PAL version has Vectorman and Vectorman 2 as well. But if you don't have some random save game on your card you have to play for 5 hours first.

Yeah, I just found that out. =P

Anyhow, I found Sonic R to be far more playable on a console than on PC - just my opinion though.

Also 400 posts, woot!

Console to PC transistions rarely control as well on the PC version (with exception to flight games and FPS.
One last thing before I finish. 100th post. Woot. *Throws a little party for myself, complete with nachos, pizza, spam, and Mountain Dew.
