Hi I found the 256 playthrough glitch part.

This came up exactly on the couple days where I was searching for a rental copy of the game (and failed) to try it. I'd rather own a physical copy for this price, but oh well, mods and the possiblity of the game getting better with future PCs is always a plus.

Turns out a new fan-made XInput mod released this year now fixes this.

In fact, I recommend every mod listed in Sonic Adventure DX: Fixed Edition (except SET layouts, Data, and Code if you plan to time attack since those change the core game).

That along with the fixed widescreen now make SADX PC (the 2004 version) the SADX of my dreams.

Yeah, it's now come to my attention that all (or most?) bosses suffer from this, which is ridiculous that people were even okay with it in the first place. I assume that the only reason it's come to pass with so many people doing it is that it seemed that like an easy way to get records or good times, and people loved that. There's a bunch of stats in bosses with comments saying how happy they are because of how easy it was or that they got such a good time with only one try. But all that fun can't last forever and eventually it becomes harder and harder to get good times doing this, requiring to start a whole segment of a game over and over again, which is even worse if you've got no way to play with save files. And all this for what? The bosses play the same, it's just the timer that begins at a different time. It doesn't add more challenge to the boss itself. It's plain ridiculous.

Back when I stopped competing, no one was doing this, except for a very few who started catching on with Chaos 0. It might not be so hard to find and nuke all those stats.

5
I might not have said anything back in the day, but now I will. There's a weird insistence that people seem to have with just tricking the timer and whatever lowest value you get is acceptable even if it's not really the fastest. People figured out that the timer in Chaos 0 starts later in adventure mode, allowing you to get a better time (that doesn't get saved to your Trial charts no less) even though you're not using the real fastest strategy. What's the point? Why limit the strategy by not having the light speed dash and do it an actually slower way? This is when you should have a rule for such instances. Keep it about being fun. About finding and using the fastest strategy, not about figuring out that adventure mode calculates time differently.

Now there's a new strat in Casinopolis to completely freeze time by talking to a hint monitor. So it's no longer about finishing the stage as fast and possible, but just how fast you talk to this monitor that's right next to you. Sure, there's some skill involved in that too, but I find the whole concept of limiting the scope of a challenge this way inane.

When I discovered how to get to a new capsule right at the start of Final Egg, I was disappointed that the stage got so much shorter, but I accepted it because it was still about completing the stage as fast as possible. It wasn't about playing with the timer. When it was discovered how to skip the snowboard in Ice Cap, which let's you finish the stage with the timer frozen, it felt weird, but I accepted it because the frozen timer was a direct result of using a huge shortcut that really does make you finish the stage in record time. Like topic title says, the fun of time attack is all about finishing fastest. If you trick the timer in the process, then so be it, but when doing so means it's no longer about finishing a stage in record time, but only about an on-screen timer, then that's when it's time to consider establishing a rule.

News and Updates / Re: Hello TSC
« on: July 20, 2015, 06:06:01 am »
To be honest, I've been mostly gone for 9 years now... and I feel like I've never been as happy as my TSC days since. The only good thing I can say for myself is I lead an easy, relaxed life. So the reason for my absence has merely been a lack of interest in video games, but frankly, the fandom I moved to is practically non-existent. I have almost no friends anymore and certainly not a family which is what I now consider TSC to be, looking back.

I don't know what my point really is; I'm sad to hear people are talking of the community dying. I was truly impressed by how long most of you guys stuck around, but maybe that's mostly no longer the case. I secretly hope that I can find it in myself to come back, and if I can, that would mean any of you can too. Some day, maybe.

Back when I was competing, we didn't allow DC emulators for this very reason. I suppose now with the Maple input plugin for nullDC it might allow accuracy to the actual Dreamcast, but even that I wouldn't be so sure.

Wait, can't you just use a 360/PS3 controller?
Yes, but like I said the joystick only gives you 8 directions. If anyone is curious about this, try slightly tilting your direction while gliding as Knuckles in a big open space like Red Mountain. He only starts moving every 45 degrees.

General Sonic / Anyone play Sonic Adventure DX on PC? Question.
« on: January 11, 2013, 09:06:18 pm »
3D movement in the old 2004 port was kind of awkward (and impossible to time attack with) since the joystick was just emulating arrow keys, giving you a maximum of 8 directions rather than 360 degrees. I was wondering if anyone can confirm if the 2011 Steam version is also like that?

News and Updates / Re: Sonic Generations - The Next Sonic Game
« on: April 19, 2011, 03:35:03 am »
Hm, I remember I had this vision a while ago of how they should do a 2.5D Sonic game that would sometimes have some 3D segments. Then they announced Sonic the Hedgehog 4 and I was amazed my vision came true, but then sort of threw a fit at how it was just downloadable and didn't make use of new-gen graphics and moving camera angles. I think I had an argument with Rolken over this, I think it was, who said it wouldn't make sense and would never happen. ;P Now this game is exactly like what I imagined, except I didn't see the classic Sonic look coming of course, not to mention the 3D gameplay looks lame as to be expected. Anyway, I'm not saying it'll be good or great, however I am more interested about it than I've been for any Sonic games in a while.

EDIT: oh, I think I got the first signs of my vision coming true with Sonic Unleashed actually. It was pretty weird cause it got announced only a few months after. But it turned out quite different than my vision compared to this. OK I'll shut up now.

I must've been out of the loop for a really long time as that's already how it used to be with emulators last time I checked

Sonic x sucks anyway don't waste you time.

Thanks for the constructive comment.

About my current progress, since 4kids has been uploading them onto Youtube, it's become extremely easy to simply rip the subs without having to use OCR to create them. It now takes fewer than 10 seconds per ep instead of 2-3 hours.

I now own Volume 4 of the Japanese DVDs as well but I'm still missing 11-13.

Do you guys want to see a Christmas tree?

Nah.

P.S.

EDIT: I should clarify; these are fake screen shots of a fictional fighting game with Osamu Tezuka's manga characters.

I found out about "AnchorFree" software, it allows me to watch Hulu!!!

I'll give you guys the subtitle files when I'm done creating them. :)

It's a poor port of the PC version that only renders at 640x480 (but supports "HD" by upscaling).

Thanks. Now I know I don't even want this anymore.

This is really stupid. As I said before, the PC version supports two different aspect ratios, so there is no reason they can't do 16:9. It also supports multiple resolutions, all the way to "1024p", so again, no reason they can't do real HD.

Turns out GetFLV is shareware, I recommend trying Hulu Video Downloader.

Asking for anyone living in USA. I'm sure there's a few.

Sorry to be an ass but don't ever use colored text. Websites often change their design, and sometimes like this one does has many skins.

Zeph edit: removed the colour codes so the post is now readable on all skins.

Nice job on the top 10 smilies it was great but I won't be reading these honorable mentions cause I can't be assed to highlight them.

4kids are releasing Sonic X subtitled, which is extremely awesome of them. But Hulu does not support Canada, so I would like someone to save the videos for me, using GetFLV or your preferred method.

I'm really mostly looking for professional subtitles as I already own almost the complete series on DVD in Japanese.

I really don't understand why everyone thinks that the game won't have widescreen just because some leaked screenshots from very early development don't have it. The game hasn't even been officially announced yet, I think it's probably a little more important just to make sure it's WORKING on 360 (which it's not yet) before working in widescreen functionality. They'll get to it sooner or later. <_< (also for the record, we don't even know if this is REAL. It could be a bunch of screenshots of SADX with a border taped on for all we know.)
Assuming the screens are real, the fact that they spent time working on a border tells me that there won't be widescreen period. Otherwise that border would be useless, and they wouldn't have a non-widescreen option for widescreen sets.

btw here's the source
Background looks like blue vomit. I can't believe they consider this acceptable.

And I refuse to believe it could be that hard to make the game widescreen. On the PC both 4:3 and 5:4 ratios work just fine.

  • Potential new charts need to be made before they lose relevance: So, are we making charts for the Mario & Sonic series or not?
So why the hell aren't there any yet?

There's something everyone here needs to understand. Yeah, it's 2010 and I've decided you guys need to wake up, no bullshitting around anymore. EVERY elligible Sonic game should be on here. It doesn't matter how good or popular they are, it doesn't matter if you think the games list is too big (just rearrange it if you like), it doesn't matter if the champion for Sonic Jam for the game.com is its one and only player. The internet allows for archival, and I doubt a single game adds a tremendous charge to the server. So get to it.

DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMN

Great news for SA.

Also sounds like a perfect opportunity to bring back online features of the original game. I sense that's not going to happen though, that was back when Sega cared and this is now.

You know, I just think that Sonic's current standing in video game culture is quite depressing, don't you think?
