I'd just go for split systems with seperate rankings rather than split systems with possible overall between both to be honest. Less confusing and each competition is contained. All of my entries are with the GC version for purposes of such a move.

Gold and Silver have them. They foil Emerald's attempt to stop Diamond and Pearl. It can't be Ruby and Sapphire because they were the ones who got looted. It also can't be Red and Blue because they were in the same squad as R/S and no previous mention was made of them. Gold and Silver were successful and the R/S and R/B team ran into D/P afterwards.

Here's a few clear cut definitions of glitchces.

1. Any and all cases of passing through a wall or ceiling
2. Permanent freezing of the clock.
3. Exploitation of obviously glitched game play mechanics. An example of this is in gems (06). We all know the power gauge is defective, not going down when it should. Of course this example becomes null and void the moment a patch that fixes the gauge occurs.

Competition Central / Re: Hey, remember when Sonic R was fun?
« on: March 03, 2009, 07:55:49 pm »
The glitched times will always be the 'real' charts. If there was actually demand for parallel unglitchy charts, it would go in freestyle or maybe even a separate "game" with its own overalls, but either option would be splitting the competition and probably only viable with some method of automatically submitting times to both sets of rankings at once when applicable, and I don't see sufficient demand for glitchless charts to justify doing that.

Dood, I've mentioned the idea of "glitchless" charts at least a year ago. (I was probably the first person to come up with the idea.) Though I despise Sonic R, the idea of glitchless charts for other games is one that I could see revitalizing competition on the whole, especially for 3d Sonic games.

General Sonic / Re: What in Sonic 06 needs fixing?
« on: February 23, 2009, 01:46:21 am »
The side characters (except Blaze) also need some serious fixing. They play like their SA incarnations, only horrible. Tails needs faster flight without him (unlike other Sonic games) plummeting straight down when he runs out of stamina. Also his ring attack needs to drop straight down for better aim. Knuckles' punches need to not suck and his wall jump glitch needs addressing. Amy is too freaking slow, her hammer's range is awful and its way too slow.

Most of this game's problems could be fixed with a real good patch, but Sega cares too little to even patch this game.

If this game is to be remade, it needs to cut Elise out of it. I don't pay to see Sonic become CAPTAIN SONIC, DEFENDER OF SQUICK!! Although 4Kids isn't too bad, I like others who posted here, would like to see them replaced since we know Sega can do better. There's far cheaper California based studios like PCB Studios with reputations for teriffic dub reputations, so why not save money to gain higher quality.

Q1: Because I had a random whim to do so. Its spreading like a disease. Nurgle must be so proud. You posted because you had nothing better to do.
Q2: Much of the plot in Sonic and the Secret Rings is about fighting off a curse that happened because Sonic got his ass kicked inside a book (thus he got pwned by a book). I saw that and had to make a joke about it. The inspiration came from this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nBQG96ovZLY At least it wasn't the first thought in my head about Sonic's death in 06. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJfZI62grHI&feature=PlayList&p=567F96A00EDD3FC7&index=13

I started getting into 40k around fall of 2006, so I've been playing for about 2 1/4 years. What got me into the game was how much fun I had with Dawn of War, with the Leman Russ and Bane Blade being the prime influences for my decision to play guard.
How much worth of guardsmen is going to be real tough to calculate, but here goes. I got these slowly, seeking out the most cost effective way and with an army list fully planned out months/years ahead as IG are NOT a very nice army on your wallet. 3 shock troopers (105), command squad (35), heavy weapon team (35), battle box containing shock troops, HWT, Leman Russ, and scenery (90), two three tank LeR squads (180), three LeR Demolishers (135), junior officer blister (12), 6 special weapon blisters (72), 3 Basilisks (90), 10 Grey Knights (84), 10 GK Terminators (125?), 4 cadian sentinels (120), 2 normal sentinels (50), Kasarkins (40), Chimera (35?), Hellhound (35?), Commisar Yarrick (17), Creed/Kell (20), 2 bane blades (180), lightning (120?), Hydra (60), Land Raider Crusader (55). Total: About $1695. Ouch. I got some of these at secondary stores to save about 10% on costs but I forget which models this applies to so I didn't account for it in the calculations. You Ork players are lucky, Assault on Black Reach gives ya a fully legal 500 point army for about $60, and World Eaters (Chaos dedicated to Khorne) can get a decent 500 points for $50 (One Khorne Berserker box and Kharne who is legal at 500 points). A bare bones Guard army at 500 points is $117 while a decent 500 point army is $186-198. Let this be a lesson to you; hunt down the battle boxes.

5th edition changed the damage charts (with new modifiers depending on the property of the weapon) so that unless every weapon has been destroyed and the vehicle is immobilized, you can't kill vehicles with glancing hits. This makes it pretty hard for Orks to hurt AV 14. The only non close combat weapons that can reach strength 9 are the kannon which is only used by one or two units, the shock attack gun which uses scatter which is bad when tank hunting, and the zap cannon is random) as a smart armored company player will deploy their vehicles so only the front is exposed to fire. However, thanks to the new rules in which assaults count against a vehicles's rear armor (unless its a walker). This gives orks a better tank hunter in the form of nobs with power klaws (especially on bikes). This change renders an armored company army list one of the better tactics to use against Orks (especially Deathwing which allows terminators as troops and typically has at least 2 Land Raiders), Tyranids, and daemon hunters, but this strategy is rather vunreble to Tau (they flat out laugh at vehicle heavy armies), Witch Hunters, Eldar, and to a lesser extent, Necron. My army list is a combined arms approach that combines deep strike, gun line, and armored tactics, though that will most likely change to a half gun line half armored company list when the new guard codex comes out this May with all the tasty rumors I've heard.

Anyways, this topic has digressed quite a bit. Anything you want to know, ask away.

Haven't played it, so I couldn't say. Don't know enough about it (especially the rules) to be able to make a proper comment yet. As such, I'm just going to leave it as an apples and oranges comparison. The stuff below is solely for informative purposes if interested.

The way WH40k works is that everything related to attacking (except scatter, leadership, and some weapon rules) is based off of 1d6. The exceptions are on 2D6. Shooting is calculated by 7- ballistics skill (can not go below 2+). Each soldier in the unit gets his attacks based on the properties of the weapon they wield with some weapons (ususally assault weapons, heavy weapons or normal weapons in rapid fire mode) being able to attack more than once (each attack is resolved with 1d6) Assault rolls are based off the differnce between the weapon skill of the fighting units (higher WS means you hit on a 3+ regardless of difference and lower WS hit on a 4+ unless the difference is more than 3, in which they hit on a 5+). Rolls to wound are 4+ difference between strength of the weapon (or unit if in close combat) and the toughness of the target. This result can never be below 2+ (1 always fails) and if the difference is 4 or more the attack doesn't work (+2 and +3 mean the wound is on a 6). CC order is determined solely by unit initiative barring certain modifiers (charging into units in cover or certain weapons or special abilities that modify initiative).

Taking the GK example with the game play explanation, due to their high WS of 5, they hit most enemies on a 3+ and their STR 6 means that anything that isn't some form of monster or vehicle (with a few rare exceptions) gets wounded on a 2+.

Q1: Because I felt like messing with ya.
Q2: Long story. My bro was nick named magnum (after Magnum P.I) in marching band, so I got the nick name P.I. I decided to take the magnum name for my account. It lacks a capital to screw with conventions.
Q3: Because I have some hidden ordinance there with the intention of making some random planet explode with an earth shattering ka-boom. <3
Q4: First you'd have to take out both of my Bane Blades (super heavy tanks the size of two-three large houses) and their body guard of 10 Leman Russes (tanks similar to WW2 ones). That assuming they don't get out flanked by several squads of Sentinels (mechs similar to AT-STs with a special rule in which they can come out of reserve and deploy at either side of the table depending on the roll of the dice. There's also the Grey Knights, who are 8-9 foot tall super soldiers with giant double barrleled uzis strapped to their arms and blessed weapons (either glaives or swords) that augment their strength to the point where they are every bit as strong physically as a large demon. Some come in terminator armor (super heavy suits of armor that can make a guy take a normal tank shell to the face and laugh at it) who are lead by guys who can transmit psychic power through their weapons, causing their enemies heads to explode from a mere nick. Have fun trying. <3

Q4: Obvious this should be. Do good deeds, get a successful career, and continue the blood line. Rather blunt but it will do.
Q5: Though I don't drink alcohol, I prefer my drinks (no alcohol of course) stirred.
Q6: Oops. Slipped my mind. I live in Simi Valley, at the Ventura County/ LA County border (California).
Q7: About to go to bed I was.

Competition Central / Re: About Sonic Unleashed...

I'd say that I agree with Alondite on this. My opinion is based on the "would this be legal in a real life race?", "developer's definitions", and "sense of self-improvement" way of thinking. Note that this ONLY applies to obvious glitches.

Taking the race track analogy, imagine a race track. This track has shortcuts which are obsure, hard to find, or hard to use but are legitimately part of the design of the track. Understanding of mechanics and strategies is like those shortcuts. A glitch is like the equivilant of going outside the boundaries of the track to get a faster time, which in the traditional rules of a real life race (whether it be by foot, boat, car, or whatever) would be considered cheating.

Although it is an odd example to use in this debate, I must use the stance of developers on the use of glitches in competition. In most multiplayer games I'm aware of (stuff by Blizzard, Bungie, etc) developers typically consider the use of glitches in a competitive environment to be cheating. I know Sonic games are single player, but wouldn't the addition of online leaderboards be technically adding a pseudo-multiplayer competitive element to the game? Under this logic, choosing not to use glitches would be the best way to honor the wishes and competitive definitions of the developers.

Lastly, my third reason for disliking glitches is a bit personal. I get no sense of accomplishment from it. When using stuff like the Canon's core time freeze glitch, Ice Cap time freeze glitch, and the TBG (during my TBG rampage which caused it to FINALLY get banned) I didn't feel any joy as a result of the new improved time. I felt that my new record was unclean. The sense of challenge and the thrill of self improvement were missing, replaced with a soul less new time. (When I was more active in competition, I thought of making faster times as like a piece of art and a challenge to push my skills to their limits.)

I still think the best way to make a Sonic RPG would be to use a Tales of Vesperia (a must play for anyone with a 360) style battle system. That would be epic. *drools* I still have the ideas in my head and in fact am currently converting them to paper with a few extra stuff.

General Sonic / Re: Unleashed Wii/360 comparisons
« on: January 01, 2009, 02:33:15 am »
Here's what I know in terms of version comparisons (and researched). I have the 360 version.

Wii: 1. Day stages control better.
2. Much more tolerable Egg Man Land stages.
3. Superior Final Boss.
4. No forced collect a thon to progress.

360: 1. Better quality day stage design (except Egg Man Land).
2. Better controls and combat in night stages (except Egg Man Land).
3. Besides the final boss, generally better boss fights.
