There's a double score glitch in Sonic 2? Well, this is a firm indication that I evidently need to compete more in the classics . . . >_>

Anyhow, if the glitch is legitimate for competition in Sonic 2, then it only seems rational and logical to make it valid for competition in this game also. Are there any objections?

Competition Central / Re: Sonic 2 MD/Gen Knuckles Score
« on: July 12, 2013, 02:55:02 pm »
I'm not really the go-to-guy when it comes to this sort of thing, but as far as I know, either of two strategies can be used to achieve high scores on Hill Top Act 1 with Knuckles. The first is a rock breaking strategy, which is allegedly similar to the one that RPGnutter uses in this video with Sonic. However, Flying Fox has recently conceived another Knuckles strategy (here's a video of it) that takes advantage of a Rexon (one of the pink plesiosaur-like creatures in the lava), which renders the rock breaking strategy obsolete. Sorry I can't provide you with any more info, but if you have any further questions or concerns hopefully some of the more experienced players can post some advice, and the chatroom is also a good place to ask about this kind of stuff.

(Also, ninja'd by SonicBoom737, but you still get my drift. :P)

I don't know a great deal about the game myself, but after watching some Wii U and 3DS gameplay footage with commentary a while ago during the E3 hype, I can confidently say that Sonic Lost World seems like an exciting and promising release. The gameplay itself looks both interesting and fun, borrowing elements from classic Sonic games, Sonic Colours, Super Mario Galaxy (which is no surprise due to Sega's current partnership with Nintendo), and the unreleased Sonic X-treme (a title that entered development for the Saturn in 1996, but was cancelled upon going into development hell). It seems less linear than that of some of the other recent 3D Sonic games, and I'm honestly really liking the general look of it. I'm also pleased with the fact that the gameplay is Sonic-exclusive; no need to play fuddy-duddy levels with secondary characters. In terms of plot, the concept of "The Deadly Six" as the main villains seems pretty cool, and a fresh break from Dr. Eggman as the chief antagonist. Aesthetically speaking, the game looks quite visually appealing, utilizing bright colours, vivid pallets and creative, impressive designs – in fact, one may make connections between graphic styles in this game and those in the games I mentioned above. The upbeat music sounds great, harmonizing well with the levels, but then again (in the least cliché manner possible), what less can one expect from a Sonic game. Overall the game seems decent to say the least, and it looks like Sonic Team is trying to instil assurance in their players that the franchise is still going strong.

Time for the next question: If you had the chance to go back in time for 24 hours, where and when would you go, and why?

Although I've already expressed my views pretty adequately in the chatroom, I thought I may as well chip in my two cents here too.

I think that the glitch with Tails that can cause single rings to double-register should definitely be banned from the competition, as it clearly violates the general competition rule, "For ring stats, you may not collect the same ring(s) more than once", and if this rule is currently in effect for every game on the site, I don't see why an exception should be made for this particular game. If maxing the game's ring charts turned from "Collect every ring in the level" to "Collect every ring in the level whilst tediously glitching every glitch-able ring", it would severely detract from the competition in my opinion, and players would be discouraged from competing, because – let's face it – who wants to spend their time painstakingly glitching rings? As I've clearly said in the chatroom, I don't plan on competing in this game any time soon, but candidly, for the good of TSC's competitive nature, I think that this glitch should be forbidden and burned to a stake! BURN THE GLITCH!! *shot*

On the subject of playing as Tails with Sonic, I don't think that this should be allowed either (that is, if we decide to prohibit the aforementioned glitch); players could inadvertently execute the glitch and accidentally obtain illegal stats, which would have to be removed from the charts upon submission. My current track of thinking is that, if playing as Tails with Sonic is banned, people won't have the ability to accidentally perform the glitch in the first place, and thus nobody will unintentionally obtain rule-breaking stats, so no complications will occur. That's about it from me on the matter, so hopefully we'll see what some more of the other users have to chime in.

^Unfortunately you've forgotten to strikethrough what you've written and subsequently type "HAHAHA DISREGARD THAT, I SUCK COCKS". Please follow the aforementioned instructions to rectify your post so that it adheres to TSC policy and procedure. :P

EDIT: In other words, please don't spam in this forum; it isn't appreciated.

^ This randomization program does look pretty exciting, and after reading through its various features and what it has to offer on the site homepage that you linked, I cannot deny that I am quite impressed with what I see. If I were to get into Pokémon games again, I'd definitely run some ROMs on VBA and DeSmuME after giving them a good dose of this randomizer. Props for the share RPGnutter! :D

^ Sonic Mega Collection doesn't give the player the ability to save their progress in games that don't already have save capabilities, but Sonic Mega Collection Plus does have an in-game save feature that can be used in such a way as you have said (which I agree is essentially save stating). Nevertheless, as long as a competition run is executed from start to finish without any save files being loaded mid-run, then the stat(s) obtained is/are still perfectly legit (back me up here admins!).

Hair thar Sarger001, and welcome to Teh Sawnik Centar!!!

*ahem* It's great to see that you've already submitted some statistics for Sonic Adventure (DX) and Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, but . . . WHAT ABOUT SONIC 06?!!? Can't stand it any more? ;)

I'm not usually as frenetic as this (it's as if I've de-matured this afternoon), so I'm going to stop now, but seriously, enjoy your time here. ^_^

I'm pretty darn sure that Sonic Mega Collection (Plus), Sonic Classic Collection and Sonic Adventure DX (including the unlockable Game Gear titles) are all perfectly fine for competition here at TSC.

General Sonic / Re: Question concerning Competition Rules (Sonic 1)
« on: May 18, 2013, 03:10:07 pm »
^ I support your reasoning, and I agree that the competition rules should be kept more up-to-date. However, the general competition rules do state the following: "Common sense applies in all games. If something seems iffy, you probably should not be doing it. Or at least check with someone before you do." Members are encouraged to ask an admin whether something is allowed or not if they wish to attempt something that may possibly violate the rules.

EDIT: Thanks for the heads-up SonicBoom737 . . . so they have. :O

General Sonic / Re: Question concerning Competition Rules (Sonic 1)
« on: May 18, 2013, 12:07:18 pm »
^ Well, seeing as Thorn's stated that the transition rule applies to S1, and your video is titled "sb2-13sec-no transition", I don't think so. You'd better check with him just to be sure. If this is the case, then all the stats on the S1 charts which have been obtained by utilizing level wraps without transitioning are void. (Also, as you can see, the rule page isn't updated regularly. :P)

^ Provided that, as Werey rightfully said, these things modify the appearance of stuff in the game (I'm not really in-the-know when it comes to cosmetic modding), then yes.

73
What confuses me in this topic is why we are suggesting calculations anyways, when you could just take the time left in said mission - that would be simpler to manage *points to E-102 charts*.

You raise a good point; assuming that these Extra charts would comprise their own division (which is what Sonicisa1Directioner suggested), submitting the time the game gives you would be simpler. However, why the charts were never put up in the first place remains a mystery to me (and I'd probably have a better idea why if I actually owned Unleashed!).

74
Subtracting one number from another isn't exactly rocket science -- I'm sure that most members of the site are capable of doing so -- but it's up to the Unleashed competitors and the site administrators as to whether charts should be put up for these missions or not. (I don't play Unleashed so I don't really have a say in this.)

General Sonic / Re: Sonic Generations Unleashed Project
« on: May 14, 2013, 12:20:39 pm »
I think we should have a section for this game with times, time attacks, rings (holy macaroni) and scores (which should be more of a challenge

I'm afraid that TSC only hosts competition charts for official Sonic releases. There used to be a sub-site called "The Unofficial Sonic Center" which (as you can probably deduce) hosted charts for unofficial Sonic games, but it was taken down some time ago. However, nobody's stopping you from competing in the game via other means -- in fact, if there's enough interest, members could post their best stats in this topic. :)

76
^ Well, that explains it then. I did find it somewhat intriguing that the user posted the out-of-context message and never logged in again. >_>

77
^ Would you kindly care to elaborate upon this statement -- who did you send a PM to, and what did the message concern? (If you wish to keep matters confidential that's fine but your post is quite ambiguous.)

Welcome to TSC UltimateDemon! Forgive me for the tardy greeting but I only returned from vacation yesterday (jetlag, bleh . . .). At any rate, it's superb to see a new gamer in the community who's a faithful Sonic fan intent on practising speedrunning, and if you put in the time and commitment I'm sure you'll be a successful competitor. It's also nice to see that you enjoy Sonic games and their adrenalin-injected gameplay, so have fun here! :P (Also, I assume that by his bartender-like "What's your poison?" X was asking something along the lines of which Sonic games are your preference.)

So if I live in Arizona, I'd be playing at 3PM or 1PM? (I'm always lost on this subject)
Arizona doesn't observe DST, so you're 3 hours behind EDT: 6 PM EDT == 3 PM MST.

You'd be playing at 3 PM Arizona time.

Thanks for double checking GerbilSoft -- guess I was right this time around. See, I'm getting less noobish every day! :D

Marathon Planning / Re: Schedule (Sixth Draft)
« on: March 08, 2013, 02:51:25 pm »
^ All parts of Arizona (except the Navajo Nation community) observe Mountain Standard Time all year round, and MST = EST – 2:00. However, on March 10th this year, DST starts in EST regions and the clocks shift ahead an hour, meaning at that time MST = EST – 3:00. Therefore (if I am correct) you'll be running Sonic Riders at 3:00 PM your time on the Tuesday. (Even if you do live in the Navajo Nation community it only enters DST in April so it'll be no different there.)

Yeah, make sure that the second box from the bottom on your PM settings page is checked, and if that doesn't resolve the issue PM an admin or ask them about it in the chat.

Or, if you wish to replay all of the boss battles, two stories. ;) (Unless you've already beaten one of them. :P)

Before 1:00 AM GMT on March 31st this year (at which time British Summer Time 2013 will begin and the clocks will shift forward an hour, so EST = GMT - 6:00), EST = GMT - 5:00, so your 3:30 PM EST run will be at 8:30 PM GMT. (The clocks will shift back an hour at 1:00 AM GMT on October 27th this year; they always shift ahead an hour on the last Sunday of March and shift back an hour on the last Sunday of October in the UK.) :)

Successfully complete the Hero or Dark side story mode to unlock boss attack mode. You will be able to fight the bosses from the side of the story you completed.

EDIT: You can also do it the way THC98 suggested.

Leaderboard Disputes / Re: Why 0:00:01?
« on: February 27, 2013, 01:18:17 pm »
Also his time was 00:00.01 but the site only lets you submit a time of not 0 seconds, so you have to submit them as 00:00.01

DarkSpinesSonic is the sonic center champion, I dont think he would BS

I assume you meant to say, "his time was 00:00.00". But yes, you're correct in saying that it's a totally legit stat (as far as the site game rules are concerned). Also, Sonicisa1Directioner, I don't think DsS is quite a spime (unless we plant a tracking device in the back of his skull :P).

Sorry son, but you're not mature enough to take that imperative step into manhood just yet. Also you ninja'd me with a fatuous question so that automatically renders you a troll. Anyhow, troll posts are oftentimes indubitably amusing, particularly to people with an asinine sense of humor akin to mine. :P

Next slapdash inquest... which Sonic CD soundtrack takes the cake in your opinion; the US one or the JP one? It would be nice if you could elucidate your reasoning but I'm not expecting an entire dissertation. :P
