I'm trying to edit my profile info, but a screen appear saying i'm not allowed to use that part of the board. Is this normal?

As a relic from when new members required validation, you needed to move up to Members (which currently requires 5 posts) to edit your profile.  That's been fixed and you should be able to use that feature now.
