ITT Games that were the biggest waste of your money
« on: July 02, 2008, 08:14:19 pm »
[Apologies if this should be in Wikitty?]
I'm sure this is one of the most stressful parts about getting games: When you buy a new game you've probably heard good things about, or just bought 'cause you can. But then you find out "Wow, this game sucks". So you're sitting there in a tiny moment of fail and wondering what made the game look so good in the first place. Even worse? You'd probably want to sell the game, to at least get some of your cash back, only to find no one else really even wants this game....

Em, rambled too much. On with the listing:
[these are all Wii games below]
Cooking Mama
Big Brain Academy
Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games
Super Swing Golf

I'm pretty sure I don't have any games that are a waste of money, mostly because I do extensive research on a game to determine whether I'll like it or not before I buy it.
Hay guiz, I made a table showing how many points each game tracked by TSC is worth. You should go see it.
Also v2.0 of my TSC calculator is available to use. You should totally use it.
I update these every Monday around 2:30pm GMT.

Only game I remember regretting was Shadow the Hedgehog, but it was a Christmas present. I would've wanted it either way, but it was the first time I was owning a game that I could only qualify as bad, or where just playing it was a complete burden.

I wanna say Shenmue 2 (NOT because I think it's bad, I just can't get into it) but I don't know how much it'd sell for. Maybe a fair bit.

I remember I got Starfox Adventure for Christmas once but hated it SO FUCKING MUCH I sold it weeks later, lol (complete definition of "not a waste of money" but I felt it worth mentioning).

I must have made SOME wasted purchases..I just can't think of any right now.

Sonic Riders (not in the sense it was a bad purchase, but because its my least played sonic game)
Devil May Cry 2 (compared to the others, a complete waste of money)
Dynasty Warriors 4 (I was going to sell it until I gotten its expansion)
Spy Hunter (PS2) (really really short and really really not worth the money)
Twisted Metal 3 (complete shit and I sold part 2 which I loved to help fund it)
my name has nothing to do with Shadow The Hedgehog

Completed Runs:
Sonic Heroes: Team Sonic: SS
Rocket Knight Adventures: Easy (US): SS

Marvel Ultimate Alliance (was one of the two games that came with my 360, so I didn't really waste any money)
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (good book, good movie, bad game)
Pokemon Dash (not rly sure why I got this... maybe because I thought anything Pokemon = good?)
Big Rigs (technically I got it via a torrent, but it had to be on someone's list)

Dude, even the time you spent downloading it and the bits you sent with the torrent are worth more than that game.  Here, let me show you what that game is worth....

:( Oh how should've waited for the cheap price as well... but it went like this:
Brother: So pick 2 out of these 3; Wario Ware, SatSR, or Rayman
Me: Rayman and Sonic.
Brother: I kinda wanted Wario Ware
Me: NO, WE'RE GETTING FRICKIN' SONIC.

Enter The Matrix has to be up there with the worst of the games I've paid real money for.  Probably SSR too, although that's because I lost it (it wasn't good enough for me to care, mind you).  In the category of most disappointing, S3D and Red Steel, I think.

I'd imagine there are also plenty from my Mega Drive days too, although I usually rented back then and only bought games I'd played and knew to be good (and games with Sonic on the cover, for I was a brand sucker).
This topic has now been officially won by me.  Never mind, you might do better next time!

I thought Secret Rings was a waste of my money after it decided to glitch up on me when I put my foot on the eject button by mistake  when I was probably playing Levitated Ruins Mission 1.Then I tried to get a new disc with no success for about a year so I can beat the whole game and I was finally able to get when a couple weeks ago when I got Mario Kart Wii.
Shortcuts I have discovered: SSR Skeleton Dome Mission 12 Gate ditch, SA2 Battle: spring dodge.

Hmmm...I'd say there's no such thing, but I'd be lying. For the most part, I had a pretty good idea they were bad games before buying them (I try to always do my research beforehand), but thought I'd give them a chance, given the series they were a part of.

Games I completely regret buying:
-Yoshi: Topsy Turvy (Not my fault, twas a gift. What a waste of plastic.)
-Commander Keen: GBC sequel (The actual name fails me, but it put the PC versions of Commander Keen games to shame. Total impulse buy, I should've gotten the generic casino game instead...)
-Bomberman Hero (Hey, where's the multiplayer? What kind of Bomberman game doesn't have multiplayer?!)

Games I might still buy for significantly less money than what I paid:
-Sonic & the Secret Rings (This game needed GCN control options to compensate for its sub-par Wii control schemes, and the music was lacking.)
-Shadow the Hedgehog (recycled SH polygons clashing with new style, tedious collecting missions, and somewhat ridiculous storyline branching ruined this game for me.)
-Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus (WAY too linear with no interactive surroundings, aka a hallway setup, and nothing short of pathetic AI. It has nice CG sequences, though, so it might be worth watching on Youtube in movie form, minus the horrid gameplay.)
-Metroid Prime: Pinball (When compared to similar pinball games, this game is disappointing. I just wanted the DS rumble pack for Starfox DS. There was no other way to get it at the time.)
Never forget who you are.

1. Sonic the Hedgehog (360). We all know how much I hate this game, so I'm going to leave it at that.
2. Sonic Riders. One of the worst racing games I've ever played.
3. Tales of Legendia. One of the most disapointing RPGs I have ever played.
4. Let's just say that I have played several of the games that the AVGN has played (Friday the 13th, TMNT, Castlevania 2, Dr. Jeckyl and Mr. Hyde, Atart 2600 Superman, Atari 2600 and GB Spider Man, both of the Simpsons games, Back to the Future), then again those were gifts.
5. La Pucille Tactics, FFTA2, Shadow of the Collosus, Nanostray 2, The World Ends with You. I know, I'm guilty of owning several games but never playing them, so technically they're wastes of money.
6. Primal Rage (SNES). I was so disgusted with this game that I returned it 30 minutes later and rented (and eventually bought) the awesome Illusion of Gaia. Please let this come on the Virtual Console as I would pay good money to play this again.
Ever know what its like to get pwned by a book? Sonic certainly does.

I actually only own one game I really consider to be a waste of my money, which would be Metroid Prime Hunters. At the time of its release, I had played every Metroid game except for Metroid II: The Return of Samus and Super Metroid. All of the other games were awesome. I had read all of the news about Hunters and thought it would be pretty cool. I spent my saved money on it a couple months after it came out, only to find out it was nothing I expected. I wasn't pulled in by anything of the game, something I got used to Metroid games doing to me. I only got halfway through the game to stop playing it in boredom. My biggest gripe with the game probably is the lack of area to explore, and that some of the regular bosses you encounter are pretty much the same thing, just enhanced. The plus to the game though is its online play, but that wasn't enough to keep me playing it.

PM, the online is why so many people like Hunters in the first place >_>

As well as the Halo series, Counter Strike, many other dumb FPSes, and Brawl I guess

Mario & Sonic at those God-damn Olympic Games - Minigame collections suck!
MySims - The idea was good, but the game just got repetitive
Red Steel - My God, this was horrible
Metroid Prime 3, and Metroid Prime Hunters - I just don't like Metroid. I've learnt that now.
Pokémon Pearl - When I first played it, I was sure I'd played the exact same game many times before...

This is just in the past couple of years. I've bought others before also, but I wouldn't want to list all of them.

cream, play a traditional Metroid game before you decide you don't like the series. Super Metroid or Zero Mission are excellent (so is Fusion but it's not a fully "traditional" Metroid due to no sequence breaking).

Games I hated:

Blazing Dragons for Playstation- A game that plays like Kings Quest, only you cant die or fail/miss at all in this game, and some of the puzzles in the game aren't as easy to figure out on your own. It tries to be funny using old fairy tales and taking a comical spin on them, but if you arent impressed by the first few jokes, you wont be impressed by the rest.

Megaman X5 on the Megaman X collection- I'm probably the only person who liked MMX6 more than MMX5. I hated the flow of stages in X5, where in between gameplay Alia (whoever she is) would interrupt the game to give you some text talking about things you'd already know about in the stage. The boss fights were the worst. While the designs of the bosses themselves weren't bad, they weren't great either, and the fight with each boss was so much slower than a regular X boss fight. This wasn't due to bosses being tough (cause they're weak), it's because...
1:Bosses have a huge bar of health, and
2:The weapon that damages them the most still does low damage

Sword of Vermillion on the Sega Genesis Collection-all around boring rpg. At least there's all 3 phantasy star games on the genesis collection, still, I wish they put wonderboy in monster world on it ;_;

Sorry, I meant I don't like the Metroid Prime series. I've got Super Metroid, and that is a quality game (though I haven't fell in love with it like some people)
