I doubt anyone is going to care but...
« on: July 22, 2005, 02:52:47 pm »
I've been playing some S1GG and trying to get the Ring records and I've gone though the levels up to Jungle Zone 2 and I just can't see how it's possible to aquire maggot's ring scores. It's impossible to collect 100+ Rings in both levels in Bridge Zone, let alone 128 and 126 respectively. Also, 98 Rings in Green Hill Zone 2? I've collected 84 I think and that's without the +10 Ring bonus at the end of stage sign (and I think you only get that when your Rings are multiples of 10, I'm not too sure. I just wanted to point this out. If anyone can look though the stages and perhaps there are hidden rings, but I haven't found them and I don't see how those ring scores are possible.

sonicam thinks no one is going to care at all. :(
Chaos Emeralds: Yellow, Red, Green, Blue and Purple.

:O

I care!

also, I think someone is lying in S:PA since I see 7 different "magical numbers" instead of the normal six.

There are more rings in the Master System version.

Then there should be seperate divisions for GG and MS Ring and Score.

Unless there are variations in the levels too, then Time should be as well.

Also:

Cant the special stages be added? They have an on-screen timer that counts down from 2:00, and can be used to determine your time.

I also know this is pointless, as Rolko wont be back for another 5 days.

EDIT: I've just seen maps for the MS version and some of the levels have radical changes in them, GG and MS should be split up.

The two were never together in the first place. Aren't the games clearly labeled as "Sonic 1 GG" etc?

True, but I get the feeling that  was because of 'Sonic 1' already being there, it just means we now need 'Sonic 1 MS' as well.

After a brief trial downloading those games, it seems that Sonic 1 GG and SMS are similar enough to be tracked on the same board much the same way that Sonic Adventure (DC) and SADX (GC) are.

There may be some differences between the two, mainly in the field of view, and some levels may be advantageous to play on a specific system (or in this case simply a specific form, as the same emulator is capable of handling both).

One other thing I noticed, though, is that in addition to getting the usual 1-up with the 100th ring, your ring total actually goes back down to 0, meaning that technically no more than 99 rings in any level can be recorded.  How should this be reflected?

If you get over 100, when you you finish the level you add 100 to the rings the screen displays?

I know that's what people have been doing.

I reckon the count should stay at 99 max, though, since if you get hit with exactly "100" rings, you die.

You can get 100+ rings on 8 out of the 12 levels, so limiting ring count to 99 is a bloody stupid idea. It's not hard to keep track of whether you broke 100 or not.

Also, Scrap Brain 3 needs adding to Ring Records (even though it's a ridiculously easy level), and Sky Base 2 needs removing (There are no rings, although the Master System signpost always gives you 10).

And for anyone who cares: Jungle 2 and Scrap Brain 2 are the only levels where you can get more rings in the Game Gear version than the Master System version.

The way I see it is this:

The games should be renamed on the database to be (GG/MS) appropriately, rather than just (GG).

The differences should be treated as between SA and SADX, and SA2 and SA2B.

Rings should not be limited to 99, that's silly and will eventually wind up with most players tied for first place.

Sprint wins.
